The Creighton softball team has a busy weekend ahead, and the flurry of action will include five games over three days against three opponents, starting Friday with Northern Colorado.

The Bluejays enter the weekend on a two-game winning streak and have won four of their last five games. The loss came against St. John’s in conference play last Saturday, though Creighton won the series 2-1.

Creighton is 15-8 on the season and 2-1 in BIG EAST play, while Northern Colorado limps in at 12-14 overall. The Bears won’t play their first conference game (Big Sky Conference) until March 29.

The Bears also are coming off a successful week, however, which included wins in six of their last seven games.  On Tuesday, Northern Colorado snuck past perennial powerhouse Nebraska (5-3) in the morning and ended the day with a win over Maine (8-0).

In looking at rankings and RPI (Rating Percentage Index) for Creighton and Northern Colorado, there’s not much to report, though Northern Colorado is coming off a memorable 2023 campaign that included its first Big Sky tournament title and program debut in the NCAA Division I Softball Championship.

Neither team is ranked in the latest USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll.

On the latest RPI update, which is based on a team’s winning percentages and strength of schedule, Creighton landed at No. 121, and Northern Colorado is No. 202 (but up 36 spots from the previous edition).
