Today we meet a player from the Midwest who had a big summer, leading her club team to the ASA Metro championship and hitting seven home runs in major tournaments including Boulder IDT.

And a week ago today–on August 17, 2015–she reached her dream of playing major college softball when she committed to the University of Indiana!

Makayla had a strong summer which culminated with her committing to an in-state Big Ten school.

10 Questions with MIkayla:

FloSoftball: If you have to describe yourself briefly, how would you do it?
Makayla Ferrari: I’m fun-loving, I think I’m a great student with a 4.1 GPA on a 4.0 scale, I take every game seriously know matter the level we are playing and I can do a wicked eyebrow dance!

FS: What’s been your best softball experience so far?
MF: Hitting back-to-back home runs in the same game.

FS: What’s your motto or philosophy you live by?
MF: Take one game at a time.

FS: What were you looking for in the college recruiting process?
MF: I wanted a place with a big, crazy tradition along with great academics.

FS: Do you have any softball superstitions or rituals?
MF: I learned from Sue Enquist when I was in 12U to “step in the pool of confidence,” to look at my bat and take a deep breath before every at bat and I still do that to this day.

FS: What’s the thing you think you do best on the field?
MF: I love base running, stealing bases and making that great game saving catch!

FS: What’s one area you want to work on?
MF: Just getting stronger.

FS: Do you play other sports?
MF: I held our school’s track record in the 100 meters and played varsity and travel volleyball until this year before quitting to focus only on softball.

FS: What do you want to study or do as a career after your playing days are over?
MF: Something in medicine maybe.

FS: Describe yourself as a softball player in one word:
MF: Positive.
