Louisville Slugger Hit Club wraps up, awards given

The three days of the 2015 Louisville Slugger Hit Club ended Monday night with awards given to the players who attended the event based in Huntington Beach, Calif.

The Louisville Slugger Hit Club honored top elite hitters from the Class of 2015 who are headed to major programs in the Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC.

Alex Sobczak was selected as the MVP of the 2015 Louisville Slugger Hit Club after winning the competition on Saturday and getting high marks from coaches.

Monday morning saw the 10 athletes work out with Jessica Mendoza in the batting cages at Pure Fastpitch in Huntington Beach, Calif. and get individual advice and coaching from her.

In the afternoon, the group heard from Jen Schroeder, Katie Schroeder and Morgan Stuart of The Package Deal along with current UCLA All-American Delaney Spaulding as each spoke of their college softball experiences.

In the evening, the Hit Club athletes were presented at the PGF 16U/14U Opening Ceremonies by Louisville Slugger Grassroots Manager Jennie Ritter.

The final event of the Hit Club was a dinner held to recap the event, recognize the achievements of each player and present an overall MVP award.

That award went to catcher/third baseman Alex Sobczak from Bloomfield, Mich. who finished as the overall points leader at the six-event competition held last Saturday.

Sobczak tied for first with Amanda Lorenz in the home drill with six out of 10 balls hit over the fence. The Michigan signee also won the bunt drill, had the third highest Zepp bat speed at 79 mph and tied for third in the home-to-first with a 2.69 second mark.
