Amanda Stockman, a 2018 shortstop from Williamsville (N.Y.) North and a member of the Jersey Intensity club program, died Wednesday afternoon in what looks to be a suicide according to several sources.

Word of her passing first emerged last night in a text sent out by Kevin O’Donnell, head of the club program when he wrote:  “It is with great sadness and heartbreak that we are reaching out to you tonight.  A tragedy has fallen upon the Intensity Family.”

“It is with great remorse that I tell you that Amanda Stockman has passed away.  A future All-American, she is an angel in Heaven now.”

“The Jersey Intensity organization is asking for your prayers for the Stockman family. Please keep them in your thoughts.”

No further details have emerged, although O’Donnell wrote FloSoftball this morning asking us to let the softball community know of a way to honor her later today.

“We will be having a prayer candlelight vigil in her honor tonight and ask that—at 9 pm EST—if all players and families could have a moment of prayer for Amanda and welcome her to Heaven’s Gate and help us to pick up the torch that she has left behind.”

O’Donnell also posted on his Instagram today that the Jersey Intensity organization has created an Amanda Stockman Scholarship fund to honor Amanda's life.

As a freshman, the infielder helped her team reach the New York Section VI Class AA semifinals and led the team with a .484 batting average with four triples and 19 RBI in 22 games.

We had a chance to see Amanda last year at this time at the Diamond 9 Sun Classic National Skills Camp held in Orlando.  She was impressive in the hitting drills and looked fluid and smooth in fielding drills also.

We at FloSoftball extend our condolences to Amanda’s family, friends and softball teammates and associates.
