The fall weather on the East Coast can be unpredictable and the ominous clouds that hovered over the fields at the New Jersey sites in Edison, Bridgewater and Chimney Rock sites for the Team NJ Fall Showcase soon opened open and cancelled the second half of games scheduled Friday.

Event Director Jim Barsalona sent out the message in the evening: “Game times on Saturday will be on, or as close as, scheduled.  Please check back for updates - follow also on Twitter or Facebook for updates!”

You can see below the schedule of games on Saturday at the Edison Complex where FloSoftball is live streaming 33 games on Saturday and with beautiful blue skies it looks like all games are on!

One of the top match-ups of the day featured two of the top teams in the East, if not the whole country.

The PA Chaos, which wowed at the Boulder IDT tournament over the summer and features Oregon-bound pitcher Maggie Ballint, shut out the Rhode Island Thunder team 1-0 in the one of the first games of the day.

Another team that looked good was the Conklin Raiders, Dale Cook’s team from New York looked strong on Friday even with the weather not cooperating. The Raiders qualified for PGF Nationals last summer and also played in the TC/USA Nationals top 64 in Reno, Nevada and at the Sparklers in Aurora, Colorado.

In addition to a win over Team PA, the Raiders were leading The Next Level (California) 3-1 in the 4th inning of an afternoon game when the rain started to come down heavily.

The team has a trio of slappers in Kendal Cook (2019), Aubrie Williams (2018) and Alexis Phillips (2017) we set the table and get on base—the three scored five of the teams seven runs.

Pitcher/infielder  Paige Rauch (Fordham 2017) also was solid at the plate going 3-for-5 and driving in two.   Rauch gave up one run to The Next Level, striking out four and giving up two hits.

Another good pitching performance came from Mariah Culver (2018), who was dominant against Team PA striking out seven in five innings, giving up just one hit and one earned run

“Even though we don't get the top prospects in the country, our kids get recruited because they are disciplined and fundamentally sound,” said Coach Cook Friday night. “We compete with the best in the country.”
