Day 1: Hustle City game recaps

Tulsa Elite - Jacks vs. St. Louis Chaos

CHESTERFIELD, MO. — On an 85 degree clear day, the Tulsa Elite (Jacks) took on the St. Louis Chaos (Beatty) at the Hustle City Invitational. The Elite was being led by starting pitcher Oklahoma commit Page Knight (27) vs Chaos starting pitcher Emma Nichols (21).

It was a pitching duel between the two teams, as neither teams offense was able to get anything going. In the fifth inning the Elite offense was able to get something going against Emma Nichols. Taylor Tuck (C) (11-2) and Mary Collins (1B) (1-2, SB), were able to get in first and second base. With one in scoring position and only one out. Catheryn Rodman (OF) was able to drive the ball into right field to drive in two for the lead. Or so we thought, the umpire said Tuck had missed third base which caused a fifth inning double play to end the inning.

It was a heartbreaking realization as I spoke with coach Frank Knight after the game,
Both pitchers did awesome. They commanded the zone and commanded the game. We had that one inning that we scored two runs, but it was an accident that she missed the plate. But it was a fun game to watch.
After a hard fought six innings, the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

Gametime Stars edge out a win against the KC Zephyrs

The story of this game was that it was a close tight game and was dominated by Stars pitcher Ariel Thompson. Thompson compiled eight strikeouts, three of which came in the second inning when she struckout the side. With Thompson settling in at the mound, the Stars offense were able to get on the board in the third inning when Emily Hott (LF) (1-2) got a two run double to put the Stars in the lead.

Later in the game the Zephyrs were able to answer back to make the score 2-1. The Zephyrs seemed to have something going in the sixth inning after Thompson switched positions in the fifth inning. Thompson was once again called to pitch to bring home the win. The game ended in a spectacular game winning triple play. I talked to Gametime Stars coach Wes Williams after the game about Ariel Thompson and that triple play.
“Ariel pitched lights out today, she was phenomenal. Moved the ball around, hit her spots. You couldn’t of asked a better job from her.”
Triple play

“That was awesome, we instill four-corners. And that’s what we told the girls, we never go through the motions. You never see a 2 to 4 to 8 back to 2 then to 5, triple play. That was phenomenal.”

Final score Stars 2-1 over the Zephyrs.

Tulsa Elite - Filali vs. KC Zephyrs

This game started fast and furious as the Zephyrs struck in the first inning when Bailee Bryant (3B) (2-3, 3 RBI, triple, double) had a three run triple to make the score 3-0. Bryant also scored a run on a wild pitch thrown by Brooke McCorkle (P). McCorkle had a rough outting as she lost control of the strike zone. Another run scored when she hit a batter with the bases loaded in the third. That ended her day as she was replaced by one of her teammates.

The Elite rallied back scoring four runs later in the game with RBIs coming from Megan Turner and Kimberli Presnell. The Elite were able to pull within one run, but they couldn’t get the two runs they needed to take the victory.

The final score was the Kansas City Zephyrs 5 Tulsa Elite 4.
