Norco Pitcher Taylor Dockins Bounces Back Undefeated
Norco high school pitcher, Taylor Dockins has been absolutely resilient the last eight months battling liver cancer and infections. She's been in and out of the hospital but the last few months she's made a significant recovery. Below, Dockins wrote about her Make-A-Wish experience and returning to high school softball.

Since my last update in September, I have been getting back in to my normal routine and getting stronger than ever. During the past few months, I spent the holidays with my family, I went on my Make-a-Wish trip to New York City, and I turned 18 years old. I play softball at Norco High School and my team has been tearing it up on the field. We are No. 1 in the Nation and undefeated in the season, 14-0.

I can't say enough how proud I am of the girls on my team. We only have four seniors and the younger ones on our team are stepping up, doing their part. Our team chemistry is incredible!

nullIn October, I had my final setback when I was in the hospital for seven days and was diagnosed with Sepsis, a bacterial infection that is life threatening. This infection caused me to have high fevers, swell, and made me very ill. I was on tons of antibiotics and was close to having three of my organs fail.

During the holidays (Thanksgiving & Christmas), this year my parents and I had my brother, sister-in-law, sister, my niece & nephew, and my grandparents over to our house. It was really nice because it was the first year my mom made dinner and we spent it at our house instead of spending it at their houses. During the year, our family is really busy but after what we've gone through, everyone was wanting to be together and wanted to enjoy the company. Having my family there with me meant so much because I know they will always be behind me and be there if I need anything. Family is my first priority in life and I'm beyond blessed to have them.

On December 9th, I was granted my wish through Make-a-Wish, Macy's, and FOX News. Macy's chose me as their Believe Kid and I was surprised with a tree decorating ceremony that included my whole high school softball team and family and friends. And I made the Channel 11 News!

Make-a-Wish has been behind me 100% and so supportive through everything. I've never imagined that I could see the Ball Drop and that was my reveal that day to go to New York during Christmas and to see the Ball Drop on New Year's. And to also see some of the extravagant places in New York City itself.

nullThis has been my dream since I was a little girl because I watched the ball drop every year and have thought NYC during Christmas time is so magical. I really don't have a favorite part of my wish because everything that I saw and the people I met were so amazing to me and made it a trip that I will remember for a lifetime.

We started softball season on March 1st and played Covina in the Dana Housley Memorial Tournament. We went undefeated in the tournament and played Etiwanda High School in the Championship. The following weekend we went to the TOC Tournament in Bullhead City, Arizona. We played the best of the best teams there and my team definitely stepped up that weekend to go undefeated again and beat La Habra in the Championship 2-0, giving us the No.1 National ranking.

Winning that tournament meant a lot to my team because we have been working hard to win it for four years and finally all the hard work has paid off. Every year we lost the first game and finally that curse is broken. Hopefully after I graduate my team can win it again and relive that moment that we will always remember. We have played a couple double headers against Diamond Ranch and Los Osos. And have recently played Mater Dei and beat them 9-0. So, as it stands we are 14-0 in the season and will continue to work hard. This year we're working together as a team to win another CIF ring, BIG VII league champs, and National Champion title.

Almost everyone on our team is committed to top colleges. We have great team chemistry and our advantage is having the same starting nine on the field as last year which makes us comfortable and confident with one another.

As it comes to my senior year on the softball field and school, it's been bitter-sweet, emotional, and a blessing. In July, the doctor told me that he wasn't sure I was going to be able to play this season, but that didn't stop me. I knew what I had to do to get back on the field and had to have faith that I would be healthy enough. My senior season with my team will never be forgotten. Everything I've been through, they have been through it as well and I'm so thankful to have them behind me, supporting me every day. My love for the game has not stopped.

As of today, I had my CT and MRI Scans, please keep praying for me that they both come back clear and I can start focusing on the important things in life.
