Top 2020 College Softball Recruiting Classes

Top 2020 College Softball Recruiting Classes
On the heels of updating the 2020 Hot 100 lists in the last several weeks, we wrap up by doing a preliminary look at which college programs are building the top recruiting classes, even though we are years away from the recruits actually signing!

As you peruse the rankings, understand that this is more of a fun early look at who is doing well in getting top players in the sophomore class -- not a definitive list. This isn't an exact science, and every new commit will alter the list -- we know that and, with 77 top 2020s still committed in the Top 200 rankings -- this will obviously change before the dust settles.

But it's still fun to see which schools are doing well both in quality and quantity of talent.

The lists used to configure the rankings are the Hot 100 and the 101-200 because, after those rankings, the number of verbals drops off significantly. The process is based on a point system in which the higher-ranking players received more points. Each player's point total is based on a sliding scale; for example, the No. 1 player receives 200 points, No. 2 has 199, No. 3 has 198… down to No. 200 which receives one.

Not surprisingly, Oklahoma is riding high after winning two national championships and is dominating at the top, with four of the top seven players in our current 2020 Hot 100 committed to the Sooners. But LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida, South Carolina, and Auburn are also in the top 10, showing the SEC looks to continue its dominance as a conference for a long time.

One final note: remember that this is just looking at one class in isolation; the rankings don't factor in previous or future classes, so if your favorite school isn't high on the list, don't despair -- it could simply mean they've loaded up in other years!
