EC Bullets Schnute Defend Home State

EC Bullets Schnute played with pride for their home state on Saturday by battling out of the loser's bracket to play in the championship game. They went toe-to-toe against the Gold Coast Hurricanes, who knocked them into the loser's bracket. Coming from behind to win the USA JO Cup 6-2 was sweet redemption.

The Bullets drew first blood in the second inning with Mizzou-bound Trenity Edwards lacing a ball down the left field line for a single. Becca Prairie laid a sac bunt that gave the defense trouble as the second baseman dropped the ball to allow Edwards to advance to third.

With runners on the corners, Ryleigh Buck hit a sac fly to right to score Edwards. The Bullets added another run to the board with Prairie's solo shot, which brought the score to 2-0.

The Hurricanes answered in the fourth by scoring two runs to tie it up.

In the top of the fifth, the Bullets shut the door by scoring four runs. Kirsten McMonigle, Sydney Pennington, Taylor Green, and Trenity Edwards all touched home to put the game out of reach for the Hurricanes.

Kirsten McMonigle is one of the Bullets' many seniors. We ask her what it means to be a Bullet and how it's prepared her for the next step.
