Angelo State Beats Armstrong To Advance To Championship Series
SALEM, Va. -- Angelo State moved on to the NCAA Division II championship series with an 8-3 win over Armstrong State on Saturday evening.
The Rambelles improved to 60-5 on the year. Armstrong State's season ends at 38-14.

"I'm proud of the way our team played," said Angelo State head coach Travis Scott. "Our kids did a good job of having good at-bats -- we didn't chase her changeup down and away, and that was key.

"We got some huge hits," Scott said. "After they took the lead we bounced back and answered, and that's what you want from your team. This team doesn't get rattled or too down. They are confident in themselves and their abilities."

ASU was able to get on the board first as Madison Greenwell hit a two-run double to center. As they have done all season long, the Pirates responded in the next half, as Hannah Reppert had an RBI single and Macy Coleman smacked a two-run home run to grab the lead.

The Rambelles seized control of the game in the bottom of the fouth with four runs. A defensive miscue that would have ended the inning scored two runs and extended the inning allowing another to runs to cross the plate. Angelo State added two more runs in the sixth inning for the decisive five-run cushion.

Greenwell bounced back from a costly error Friday by going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Courtney Barnhill was 2-for-4 and Bailey Wallace had two hits and two RBI.

Morgan Hill improved to 10-0 on the year after pitching four innings and giving up three runs on six hits. Kenedy Urbany came on in relief and allowed just one hit in the final three innings to earn the save.

Coleman finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored for Armstrong State. Reppert, Natalie Corbin, Katie Collins, Jane Trzaska and Connnor Weaver also had hits. Trzaska (19-8) took the loss in the circle going 3.2 innings and giving up six runs (two earned) on six hits with a pair of strikeouts.

For Armstrong State, the game represented the final intercollegiate competition for the university as the school will no longer sponsor intercollegiate athletics due to the merger with Georgia Southern University later this year.

"I've been told only one team leaves happy -- one team wins the whole thing," Trzaska said. "But it's been a blessing to play in such a great program."
"It's been a blessing to be able to fight for this program, especially since this is our last year" Reppert said. "We took it as far as we possibly could, fought until the end and gave it everything we have."
