Today, we continue our look at the top 100 players in the 2017 class… we’re spotlighting 10 each day as we count down from 100 to No. 1.

These players were chosen based on input and feedback from college and club coaches who’ve seen them play all across the nation.

Criteria for choosing and ranking the players including performances at the club and high school levels and projecting how they will play at the collegiate level.

Today we feature players No. 70 to 61 with standout players from Alabama, California (3), Georgia (2), Missouri, Pennsylvania and Texas (2). Pictured above: outstanding lefty hitter Livy Schiele, who is SEC bound.

null70—Hanah Bowen P/IF… OC Batbusters – Stith (Arizona)
Hanah is a multi-faceted player who is well versed in the game and has a high softball IQ. She can pitch and play any infield or outfield position. In the circle, she’s an up and down pitcher with movement who’s smart and knows how to get people out.  An All-CIF honoree last year, Hanah moves up to the two-time defending PGF 18U National Champion Batbusters coached by Mike Stith after having great success with Mike Smith’s 16U Batbuster team.  She is on a roll this spring, having compiled a 11-2 record with a 1.03 ERA through the end of April including four shutouts and two no-hitters, one coming this week in a 12-strikeout performance. Hanah also has a career .447 batting average and in 261 plate appearances has only struck out five times.

null69—Kama Woodall P… Gold Coast Hurricanes (North Carolina State)
Kama has had a stellar prep career even before this, her junior year, as she had won multiple Florida high school state titles and earned 1st Team All-State honors. This season, she ran her record to 15-1 with eight of the wins being shutouts. The right-hander has been a dominant pitcher for years after developing a good screwball which she throws inside effectively.  She also has a shutdown curveball and change and can throw her pitches to all zones.  Coaches also note that Kama is unshakeable in the circle and has an advanced mental approach to the game in that she doesn’t show nerves, even playing against the top competition she faces at the club level.

null68—Jana Johns 3B… Georgia Impact (South Carolina)
Jana is a power-hitting infielder who hits balls harder and further than almost anyone in her class.  She’s greatly improved her glove skills and footwork at the hot corner and has the type of talent that will allow her to contribute early in the SEC. Jana has won three high school state championships at the Georgia 3A level and hit the game-winning home run last year in a 1-0 victory. She’s a three-time All-State honoree who holds six school records including single season doubles (28), runs scored (53) and grand slams (3). She also has the career mark with six grand slams. Last summer she hit .476 at PGF 16U Nationals and helped her Vipers team finish 17th.  Jana is also an outstanding basketball player and was 2nd Team All-State this year after setting a single season school record with 520 points.

null67—Hannah Boos P… Ohana Tigers (San Diego)
Hannah has succeeded at every level she’s played at with championships at the high school and club levels.  She won an ASA 14U National Championship, a CIF title with Pacifica High of Garden Grove, California and helped her team finish 3rd at PGF Nationals last year and 2nd the year before. Hannah benefited from backing up pitcher Kaylee Carlson (Auburn) and Kaley Winegarner (Northwestern) as a high school freshman and over the last two years has emerged as a workhorse pitcher with her curveball, change and screwball.  She’s also impressed coaches with her attitude and competitive edge and is a leader by example with her likeable personality in the dugout.

null66—Sara Jubas MIF… Beverly Bandits (James Madison)
Sara is the type of player who does everything well—she’s a wizard with the glove, is smooth in getting to the ball and in making the glove-to-hand transition. One coach described her as “Ozzie Smith with a stick.” She’s an unspoken leader as her skills on the field speak for her and she makes plays plays other infielders can’t because of her speed, range and ability to take proper angles to the ball.  Sara helped her Bandits team finish 2nd at PGF 16U Nationals last year and at her Pennsylvania high school she led the team in batting her freshman and sophomore years and is on top again this season with a .655 average. Sara was offered by ACC and Big Ten schools before choosing to play for the Dukes of James Madison.

null65—Haven Sampson OF… Georgia Impact (Florida)
Haven isn’t the biggest player on the Hot 100 list at 5-foot-2, but the word that keeps being used to describe her is “Gamer.”  One coach said, “She plays like she’s 10 feet tall and is bullet proof. Haven has a big heart and plays with swagger.”  Haven gets outstanding reads on the ball and is a big-game athlete who makes impact plays from her centerfield position. She has a knack for coming up with a key hit or catch at the time her team needs it the most. Haven has been with the Impact organization since age 12 and has been a major reason for the programs’ success nationally.  She was also named a Georgia AAAA All-Region pick after batting .400 last year and continually making outstanding plays on defense.

null64—Jenna Olszewski OF/UT… Birmingham Thunderbolts (Auburn)
Jenna is a five-tool player who shines equally well on offense and defense because of her great bat and slick glove.  She’s skilled enough to play the middle infield and even catch, but has starred in the outfield in club ball play.  The Alabama athlete has been with the Bolts organization since 2011 and was one of the stars on the 16U team last year that went 5-2 at PGF 16U Nationals and tied for 3rd. Jenna also shined at the high school level as she was named a Class 7A All-State honoree in 2015 after she hit .401 with 11 home runs and 52 RBI. She went down with a hand injury in the first game of this season, but she’s back now primed for the playoffs and a strong summer at the club level.  Jenna committed to Auburn during her freshman year.

null63—Madison Preston P… DeMarini Aces (Alabama)
Madison took the world by storm last fall as the 6-foot lefty hurler dominated the competition, pitching 81 1/3 innings and only giving up 34 hits while striking out 140 batters.  She’s hard to get a solid hit against because, with her power and movement on her pitches, it’s difficult to get the bat square on the ball.  Facing top club teams in major tournaments, she would rack upwards of 12 K’s. She shined at the high school level as well and earned Missouri Class 2A All-State honors as a Utility Player.  Her meteoric rise over the last six months resulted in heavy interest from SEC schools and, after Pat Murphy and staff at Alabama signed off on Madison’s desire to major in nursing, she committed to the Tide.

null62—Maddie MacGrandle P/IF…  Texas Glory (Texas A&M)
Maddie MacGrandle is a true lefty and student of the game. She was a 2nd Team FloSoftball All-American last summer after a strong sophomore campaign where she showed she’s one of the top pitching/hitting threats in the country. The southpaw is a cerebral player who competes hard and have developed power to all fields. She's battled against some of the toughest hitters in the country throwing in the low 60s and her curveball is her most challenging pitch for hitters.  Maddie hasn’t missed a beat this year, either: she had one week in March where she struck 17 on a Tuesday and then hit a grand slam and had eight RBI two days later while striking out 11 and pitching a five-inning no-hitter. The Texan committed to the Aggies in December of her freshman year.

null61—Livy Schiele OF… Batbusters – Fox (Auburn)
Livy is a speedy lefty slapper who has always had the tools to put the ball down in the dirt and beat it out, but now she’s adding power to her arsenal.  In a game this year, Livy hit three home runs to tie a CIF-San Diego Section record.  She was honored this spring as the San Diego Union Tribune Player of the Week after batting .625 with three doubles, two trips and two home runs including a grand slam.  Still, her ability to get on base is what made her a 2nd Team FloSoftball All-American as a sophomore.  Livy has been a .500+ hitter forever—she batted .526 and broke seven school records as a freshman and continues to shine: through 21 games this spring she’s hitting .591 with a .671 on-base percentage.  Clint Myers first saw Livy at one of his camps when he was the Arizona State coach and he offered her early on at Auburn; she committed to the Tigers in December of 2013 after taking an unofficial visit to the school.
