STARKVILLE, Miss. — The SEC softball crown fits Auburn just fine.

The Tigers won their second straight SEC tournament championship Saturday, and did it by knocking off some of the nation’s best teams.

The Tigers beat LSU 7-1 for the tourney title at Nusz Park on the Mississippi State campus in a weekend in which Auburn beat the No. 1 Florida, No. 4 Alabama and No. 13 LSU.

The red-hot-again Tigers improved to 49-9 on the eve of what they hope is another run to the College World Series. Auburn will learn Sunday night its NCAA tournament fate, which will include hosting the opening round of regional play next weekend. If it wins there, will likely be a host site in the Super Regionals as well.

Auburn's Emily Carosone was named the tournament's MVP.

Saturday's  win followed coach Clint Myers' script. Makayla Martin provided good starting pitching, Auburn's defense was sound and the hitting had enough thanks to Carosone's 2-run single in the second. Tiffany Howard's first career homer, a 2-run shot to center, sealed the game, making it 7-1 in the sixth.
