The softball players in the FloSoftball Class of 2020 Hot 100--the current freshman class--are barely into their initial high school year but 32 of them already know where they will be playing at the next level.

While we were publishing the Hot 100 over the last two weeks, four of the 32 finalized their choices and many more are expected to be "off the board" by the end of the year; some have even indicated they will decide their college of choice by the end of September.

Since this class is so young and most are NOT committed, it's pretty useless to do college rankings like we can do for the older classes where all but a handful are committed.

However, we can see some trends that are worth noting in the list of Hot 100 verbals (see below the colleges who have scored at least one 2020 Hot 100 commit):

  • Two traditional powers, Oklahoma and Arizona, have jumped out to a huge lead as each has picked up five early commits from the 2020 class.
  • The Sooners having their quintet all in the top 25 including No. 1 prospect Jayda Coleman.  It's the third class in a row with the Sooners getting the Hot 100 top player after getting 2018 pitcher Brooke Vestal and 2019 catcher Kinzie Hansen.  All three, incidentally, committed before OU won this year's NCAA D1 National Championship.
  • The Arizona Wildcats are also tearing it up getting five players who are ranked in the top 35 including a pair of in-state twins.  Like Oklahoma, Arizona has done a great job in securing top prospects in talent-rich Southern California.
  • Six schools have a pair of commits from the 2020 Hot 100 and nine others have one player… so far.
  • Conference-wise, the SEC leads with most teams represented in the 2020 Hot 100 at six.  The Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12 each has three teams on the list.
  • The surprise at this point early in the 2020 class may be Ohio State which has secured commits from a pair of players in the Buckeye State, both of whom play in the Beverly Bandits organization. Keep an eye on OSU, which is off to a good start in keeping talent at home.
