Florida State softball is so much more than ACC Champions and WCWS contenders. Peel back the layers of the Florida State softball team and learn something new.


1. Alex Powers tore both ACLs 10 months apart. She played her redshirt freshman year wearing two knee braces like an offensive lineman. She can also wiggle her ears.



2. Deja Bush is a legacy child.
Her dad Devin played football at FSU in 1993 and went on to play in the NFL. Her brother Devin Jr., dad, and I all have the initials "DMB" and they all have birthdays in July all a week apart.

3. Dani Morgan is deathly afraid of lightning. 



4. At Buford High School, Tessa Daniels won four straight state championships and they are currently going for their 10th consecutive.

5. Jasmine Palmer wears flip flops 24/7.


6. Zoe Casas is double jointed in her shoulder and fingers. She has one sister, one half brother, two step brothers, and two step sisters.



7. Jessica Burroughs has two cats, Kofi and Stevie.

8. Abby Evans is obsessed with pigs. 
She's probably watching this video right now...



9. Lauren Harris  grew up with a lot of animals; two cows, two rabbits, two ferrets, two hamsters, two cats, 15 chickens, two roosters, and a dog.



10. Sydney Broderick is a huge Washington Nationals fan.

11. Jessica Warren is ambidextrous. She played two years or more in seven different sports growing up.

12. Anna Shelnutt is obsessed with wolves.



13. Cassidy Davis and Cali Harrod are the only two where sports are the only thing they do right handed. They do everything else left handed.



14. Morgan Klaevemann used to show chickens and turkeys at the county fair.



15. They honor and play for those who can't.
 Taylor Foster (passed away from cancer in 2014), Monk Bonasorte and Madison Marshall (both currently battling brain cancer)

16. We do a "GATE" everyday.
This is where the team gets together before practice to acknowledge the separation of their personal lives (relationships, friendships) and being a student, and focus only on being the best softball player we can.

17. We have a group called "one feather" that we consider the "team within the team"

18. JoAnne Graf field is named after the previous and first coach of women's softball at FSU

19. Advanced to the semifinals of the Women's College World Series for the third time in school history, matching the longest postseason run ever.

22. Ellie Cooper is the captain for the New Zealand White Sox that competed in the World Champinships in Surrey, Canada.

25. It was the ninth trip to the Women's College World Series for Florida State.

26. Jessica Burroughs, Alex Powers and Jessica Warren were named NFCA All-Americans.
It is the first time since 2004 that the Noles had three All-Americans in the same season, and the sixth time overall. There have now been 30 different FSU student-athletes that have earned All-America accolades.

27. This year marked the 14th ACC Championship for Florida State in the 25 years of ACC softball. 

28. Alex Powers was named ACC Player of the Year, while Jessica Burroughs earned ACC Pitcher of the Year honors.
They were joined on the All-ACC First Team by Ellie Cooper, Morgan Klaevemann, Meghan King and Jessica Warren. Carsyn Gordon was also selected to the All-ACC Second Team.

29. Head Coach Lonni Alameda was named the ACC Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive season. 

30. Coach Alameda also earned her 500th career win during the 2016 season, accomplishing the feat on April 6 with a 4-0 victory over Jacksonville. 

31. Coach Alameda pitched for the University of Oklahoma.

32. Meghan King tossed a perfect game against Tulsa on March 12.
It was the first perfect game in FSU history since Casey Hunter on March 13, 2004. Tulsa went on to win the American Athletic Conference in 2016, making King the seventh pitcher since 2005 to record a perfect game against a team that went on to win its conference tournament.

33. The Noles set a school record with 459 runs scored and 7.06 runs per game, far surpassing the previous records of 400 runs and 6.25 runs per game that were set in 2014.

34. Jessica Warren is turning into one of the best offensive players in Florida State history, even though she just finished her sophomore season.
She ended 2016 ranked second in FSU history in single-season home runs (20), RBI (78) and runs scored (71). Through two seasons, she is already second all-time at FSU with 39 home runs and is ranked seventh with 135 RBI. 

35. Assistant Coach Travis Wilson played fastpitch softball in New Zealand earning Softballer of the Year.
