Rising Star: 2021 SS/2B Lauren Bevis
FloSoftball Rising Star profile of Gold Coast Hurricanes 14U shortstop/second baseman Lauren Bevis.
In 2015, Lauren Bevis was on the roster for the inaugural USSSA Elite Select team.
"We were playing our last game in the championship and once again it was bases loaded it was the bottom of the last inning, two outs," Bevis said. "I hit it in the 5-6 hole and my walk-off triple won the game. I got the MVP ball from my coach."
She also got high-fived and hugged by former Florida Gator and current USSSA Pride player Hannah Rogers.
But 2015 wasn't Bevis's only time to come in clutch for her team.
"I remember playing in the 12U Carrollton Classic. We were in extra innings and it was the bottom of the ninth it was a tied score," Bevis said. "I went up and it was bases loaded, two outs and all the pressure on me. But I remembered to just stay focused. I hit it and those three runs scored and we were all jumping and were so happy. We got so excited that some of my teammates had to use the bathroom so we all just ran into the bathroom after that. It was really funny."
For now, Bevis is focused on finishing up middle school and playing in the summer for the Gold Coast Hurricanes. She is also taking some unofficial visits to schools including Ole Miss and Auburn and looking towards high school where she will once again get to play with her older sister, Brooke.
"The main thing that I see in Lauren is that she's always been one that was a great listener to my instruction on technique," Bevis's coach and father Allen said. "She's taken that to heart. And now she just plays. She tries to cover as much ground as she can and just make the plays from whatever angle the ball puts her in. But she's got that good foundation of technique."

What are you hoping to accomplish in the rest of middle school?
I'm just hoping to move forward and hoping it will take me somewhere in high school. I'm trying to keep my eyes focused on softball.
Do you play other sports?
I used to do cheer. I wanted to try something different last year but then I realized my passion belongs on the field.
Did you learn anything from cheer that helps you in softball?
The strength and how to become a leader and stand out in each individual sport.
What are you other strengths besides being a leader on the field?
I think I have the voice to not just help my pitcher but also my whole team. I also have speed and get along really well with my teammates and I feel like we're one big family and we relate to each other.
Do you have a favorite tournament?
My favorite tournament was probably the first time I hit it over the fence. It was around my birthday a couple years ago and that was one of the best days
What are your ultimate dreams/goals?
I would love to play in the Olympics 2024 for softball and I would also love to play college softball and win a national title.
Do you have any favorite schools?
I'm just keeping my options open right now.
What is your family like?
My family is very supportive. My mom and dad push me to where I want to be in softball and they're always really supportive. My sister also plays softball. Whenever I'm down she's there to pick me back up. Sister is a junior at Creekside.
How would your teammates describe you?
Loyal, honest, funny and a leader on and off the field.
Do you have any softball superstitions or rituals?
Last year, I would wear a lot of makeup. I felt wearing eyeliner would give me good luck. When I wore it I would do really good but if we had an early game I wouldn't wear the eyeliner and then wouldn't do so well.
What are your hopes going into the summer season?
I want to make sure I'm still a leader on the field and help out not just my pitcher but my team as well. I want to push myself and be focused on the game and also be there for myself.
How is it having your dad as a coach?
Sometimes he's tough on me because, I mean, he's my dad. He's always looking for the best for me and he does push me.
If you could travel to anywhere right now, where would it be?
I would love to go to California because not only is the softball great there but I would love to see the beaches on the West Coast and look at the famous Hollywood sign.
What is your favorite movie?
The Fast and the Furious series.
What kind of music do you like?
I like any type. I could go for country or rap.
What is your favorite TV show?
Right now I'm watching One Tree Hill.
What is your favorite subject in school?
I really like language arts because I've always had a love for writing. When I'm bored in my room or not hitting outside then I will write a cool little poem.
