First-Team FloSoftball All-Americans: Catchers

null
Sr. Shaye Bowden (Sunnyslope, Phoenix, AZ)
Bowden can play short and third, but her strong arm and power bat make her a great athletic catching prospect. She hit .654 this spring, and her 17 home runs were third most in the state while her 84 RBIs were fourth most in the nation. Bowden compiled all of those numbers in just 33 games. Bowden led her team to the 5A conference state tourney and was rewarded as the Arizona 5A Player of the Year. Despite batting .588 for her career with 41 home runs and 193 RBIs, her most impressive stat may be that she's only struck out twice in her entire prep career. A PGF All-American, she is ranked No. 23 in the FloSoftball 2017 Hot 100, and the Louisville Slugger Hit Club finalist has committed to Oregon.

null
Sr. Mia Davidson (Orange, Hillsborough, NC)
Davidson is considered by many scouts as the top power hitter in the nation. Ranked as the No. 4 prospect in the FloSoftball 2017 Hot 100, the Mississippi State commit set a North Carolina career state record when she clubbed her 53rd home run in the playoffs. Her record-breaking blast also brought her team -- coached by her father, Eddie -- back for a come-from-behind win in the first game of the best-of-two Class 3A title series, which Orange won. After hitting .517 with a .750 on-base percentage (thanks to 43 walks, most intentional) along with 12 home runs and 50 RBIs, it's no surprise she's won every possible honor, including PGF All-American, Louisville Slugger Hit Club finalist, USA Today First-Team All-American, and Gatorade Player of the Year.

null
Sr. Shelby Gayre (D'Hanis, Texas)
Gayre has put up video-game-like numbers over the last two years, and the Kansas commit has drawn national recognition as one of the top offensive players in the country regardless of position. This year, she batted .722 with 19 home runs and 61 RBIs to compile a 1.766 slugging percentage and didn't strike out once in 106 at-bats. She accomplished this after batting .725 with 79 RBIs and 18 home runs in only 80 at-bats as a junior. Her honors included being named USA Today Second-Team All-American, Class 5A All-Area, and District 29-21 MVP.

null
So. Kinzie Hansen (Norco, CA)
The CalHi Sports Freshman of the Year looks to be the leading candidate for Sophomore of the Year too, as she has backed up her No. 1 overall ranking in the FloSoftball 2019 Hot 100 with how she plays behind the plate. The Oklahoma commit helped Norco reach the CIF-Southern Section DI final game after being ranked No. 1 for much of the season. Though the Cougars lost to Los Alamitos, they still finished No. 2 in the FloSoftball FAB 50 rankings thanks to Kinzie's .470 batting average, 11 doubles, and 43 RBIs.

null
Sr. Mary Iakopo (Los Alamitos, CA)
Iakopo is considered one of the top defensive catchers in the country, and her strong arm and quick movements behind the plate helped her land a spot on the USA Softball junior national team. The No. 12-ranked player in the FloSoftball 2017 Hot 100, she batted .373 with 26 RBIs to spearhead Los Al to the CIF-Southern Section DI championship and the No. 1 overall ranking in the final FloSoftball FAB 50 high school rankings. The Oregon commit had a long list of honors: PGF All-American, So Cal Sidelines First Team, and CalHi Sports 2017 Ms. Softball State Player of the Year finalist.

null
Sr. Abbey Latham (Demopolis, AL)
Latham led the state of Alabama with a 1.240 slugging percentage and was second in home runs with 19 (a school record), third in RBIs with 74, and fourth in batting average at .605 and on-base percentage with a .639 mark. She helped lead her team to the final three in the South Central Region, the furthest it's gone in a decade. Latham was an ASWA All-State catcher for four years and has been all-area tournament MVP for three years. The last two years she's been an AL.com Super All-State Catcher and was the 5A Player of the Year this spring.

null
Jr. Ally Shipman (Valencia, Santa Clarita, CA)
Shipman comes from a softball family. Her older sister, Madison, was a legend at Tennessee, and her father, Bill, is a longtime respected coach in Southern California, but Shipman is blazing her own path as a fantastic defensive catcher with a dangerous bat as well. The No. 3-ranked player in the FloSoftball 2018 Hot 100 is following her older sibling to Tennessee. Shipman was the So Cal Sidelines Player of the Year after batting .613 with 15 home runs and 39 RBIs to help the Vikings reach the CIF-SS DI quarterfinals. Her most amazing stat, however, may have been her .833 average with runners in scoring position.
