Scrap Yard Dawgs (16-11)

The Dawgs are in second place in spite of having the most dominant ace on their staff, Monica Abbott (Tennessee), the million dollar arm. It's no surprise that Abbott leads the league in strikeouts with 131 in 71 innings pitched. GM Connie May loaded her bullpen with southpaws Cheridan Hawkins (Oregon), Miranda Kramer (WKU), and Morgan Melloh (Indiana) and more. Expect rookie Allexis Bennett (UCLA) who is third in the league in hits (37) with a batting average of .411 and nine steals to be a sparkplug. The Dawgs are very deep in nearly every position and are expected to make a serious run at the Cowles Cup.

Akron Racers (19-16)

The Racers have three potent hitters in their lineup that love to go yard, Sam Fischer (6), Shellie Robinson (6), Jennifer Gilbert (5). Robinson is third in RBIs with 21 and Gilbert sits in seventh with 17 RBIs. Watch for rookie Nicole Schroeder to drive in runs with 16 on the season. Sami Fagan is a doubles machine leading the league with nine. The pitching staff for Akron is steady with Jailyn Ford (JMU), Megan Betsa (Michigan), Alexis Silkwood (Miss. State), Sara Groenewegen (Minnesota), and more. The Racers will need to capitalize early and often when they face the Dawgs at home.
