One out away from being knocked down to the loser's bracket by way of the run-rule, it looked like CCA Augustine was out of options. 

Even CCA's coach Andrew Barragan believed his team faced a lead too big to overcome, but he was wrong.



CCA rallied from a seven-run deficit to force extra innings before Abigail Gunter delivered the tying run with an RBI double and scored the winning run on a passed ball. The dramatic sequence gave CCA a walk-off 12-11 victory in 10 innings over Team Long Island DeMarini at the PGF 14U Premier Nationals on Wednesday at Fountain Valley Sportspark in California. 

"I was thinking we will try again tomorrow," Barragan said. "I just think we weren't being selective in our at-bats. That team was great, but it is the resiliency that this team has. They never give up. We have been down to many teams and come back, but not like that. Once we were able to turn the lineup over to the top of the lineup, great things happened." 

CCA scored first thanks to a lead-off triple to center by Jessica Clements, who scored on a passed ball to make it 1-0, but CCA lost the lead in the fourth and lost it by a larger margin in the sixth inning as Long Island batted around.

It was 10-3 Long Island with two outs in the bottom of the sixth for Logan Riggenbach with two runners on base. Riggenbach drew a walk and so did Gunter, forcing in a run to make it 10-4. Kayla Stone added a two-run single to make it 10-6. CCA tied it up in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

The score stayed tied until the top of the tenth inning with Maddie Gallagher at second base due to ITB. After moving to third base on a ground ball, Brianna Morse hit another ground ball to second base, knocking in Gallagher to give Long Island the 11-10 lead.

That set the stage for Gunter's heroics in the bottom of the 10th.

"We just kept working as a team," Gunter said. "We came together and we were pumped after we got some runs back. We all came together and our pitcher came back with 1-2-3 innings. We had each other's backs." 

Hofstra commit Jenna Laird went 2 for 6 with two RBIs, Morse went 1 for 5 with two RBIs, Nikki Bondoc went 3 for 4 with an RBI, Amanda Thompson went 3 for 5 with three RBIs, Alyssa Seider threw 4.2 innings while driving in two runs, and Seton Hall commit Kelsey Carr went 2 for 5 with an RBI and throwing 4.1 innings to get the loss for Team Long Island, which moves to the loser's bracket to face Tampa Mustangs-TJ on Thursday.

Clements went 3 for 5 with a triple and a run scored, Stone went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs, Julia Woeste drove in a run, Gunter went 2 for 4 with four RBIs, and Stewart walked three times while throwing three innings of relief to get the victory for CCA, which takes on Indiana Magic Gold-Rudd on Thursday.

"We have to get pumped from the start," Gunter said. "We have to work the game. There is no stopping us."

Firecrackers-TJ 1, Firecrackers-Brashear/Thornburg 0
Rachel Allen came through with walk-off home run to left field to lead Firecrackers-TJ to victory. Michigan commit Ryleigh Carricaburu drew two walks, Taylor Stephens and Elianna Reyes had a hit each, and Grace Uribe threw a four-hit shutout and complete game to get the victory for the Firecrackers-TJ.

"Our defense was strong the entire game," Allen said. "We had to pick each other up. We had a lot of energy. Bottom of the seventh with no score, somebody had to step up. I was looking for an inside pitch. I took the first couple of pitches and on the third pitch, I just went for it. I was hoping it would go out, I felt it, but I knew it would go out. It was great."

Long Beach State commit Tiffany Lliff hit a double, while UC Santa Barbara commit Madelyn McNally, Cal State Fullerton commit Staci Chambers, and Cal State Fullerton commit Bailey Wallace each got a hit for the Firecrackers-Brashear/Thornburg, which had runners in scoring position twice, but couldn't capitalize. Firecrackers-Brashear/Thornburg were eliminated in their next game by So Cal A's Angulo with a 4-3 loss.

So Cal Choppers-Fausett 5, Team Seattle 0
Ava Justman struck out six en route to a two-hit complete game to help the Choppers advance to the next round. Libbie McMahan went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs, Morgan Salgado went 1 for 2 with an RBI double and Lauryn Carter drove in a run for the Choppers, who face Corona Angels-Rogers on Thursday.

Riley Hubby and River Maher had a hit each and McKenna Braegelman drew the loss in five innings of work for Team Seattle, which takes on Firecrackers-Sewell in the loser's bracket on Thursday.

Corona Angels-Tyson 8, Illinois Chill Gold 0 (5 innings)
Washington commit Sarah Willis and Savannah Hooks combined to throw five innings of no-hit ball to lead the Angels to victory. Willis also hit a two run home run. UCLA commit Savannah Pola went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, Madalie Gomez went 2 for 2 with three RBIs, and Rylie West and Cydney Sanders each drove in a run for the Angels, who face OC Batbusters-Campbell on Thursday.

Taylor Smart drew two walks and Britney Lewinski struck out four in the loss for the Chill, who got eliminated in the next game in a 9-1 loss to Texas Aces Express.

Indiana Magic Gold-Rudd 4, Gametime Stars Gold-Walde 0
Alexis Rudd went 2 for 3 with two RBIs to lead the Magic to victory. Grace Lorsung went 2 for 4 with a double, Addison Baker went 2 for 4, and Macy Montgomery threw a complete game shutout to get the win for the Magic, who face CCA on Thursday.

Ohio Hawks Gold 3, Ohana Tigers-Quarles 0
Tori McQueen threw a complete game shutout to lead the Hawks to victory. Haven Dwyer went 1 for 3 with a two-run double, Harlie Bickett went 2 for 4 with a double, and an RBI and Dana Anderson went 2 for 4 for the Hawks.

Elliana Vasquez 2 for 3 and Johanna Rodriguez went 1 for 2 with a double for the Tigers, who defeated LTG Lions-Carda 12-2 in five innings later in the day to stay alive. The Tigers take on So Cal A's-Angulo on Thursday in the loser's bracket.
