Jordy Bahl Tosses Perfection

Update, Feb. 13: Nebraska Softball star Jordy Bahl will miss the remainder of the 2024 season due to an ACL injury sustained on Day 1 of the 2024 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.

Jordy Bahl pulled off the shocker of the college softball offseason when she made her move back to her home state, joining the University of Nebraska.

After two spectacularly decorated seasons at Oklahoma, including two Women's College World Series titles, 2023 WCWS Most Outstanding Player, NFCA First Team All-American in 2022 and 2023 and more--Bahl will be looking to bring the same success back home in Nebraska.

But when will Bahl make her debut for Nebraska Cornhuskers softball in 2024? And how will the Huskers employ Bahl's talents through the 2024 season?

Here’s a look ahead at when she will probably start, and how she may be utilized in Lincoln as Nebraska’s expectations have skyrocketed with her arrival.

When Will Jordy Bahl Pitch for Nebraska Softball in 2024?

Barring an injury or some other setback, Bahl is all but assured to be Nebraska’s No. 1 option on the mound throughout the 2024 season.

That means she'll be the probable starter when No. 18 Nebraska takes on No. 7 Washington in the team's season opener Thursday, Feb. 8, at the 2024 Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, which will broadcast on FloSoftball.

After a quick trip to New Mexico for another tournament, Bahl and the Cornhuskers will be back on FloBaseball for the 2024 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, where Nebraska will participate in five more games, including clashes against UCLA, Utah and Oregon.

Bahl will likely be employed in multiple games at both Puerto Vallarta College Challenge and Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

When asked in a recent press conference about how she plans to manage all of the effective arms in the rotation, Huskers coach Rhonda Revelle didn’t reveal much on the lectern in the leadup to her team’s first game of the season.

“You keep the long game in mind, but you’ve got to play the game in front of you,” Revelle said. “We have great communication and great trust on our pitching staff, and I think there will be a lot of dialogue that goes into that. We’ll play it game by game, week by week.”

It's anyone's guess when and how Bahl will be employed in the rotations, but we might be able to glean some information based on how Nebraska has used no. 1 starting pitchers recently, as well as how Bahl was used during the early-season tournaments in the 2023 season.

Here are Jordy Bahl's numbers alongside Nebraska's ace from a year ago, Courtney Wallace.

Why Did Jordy Bahl Transfer to Nebraska Softball?

Bahl’s reasoning for transferring to Nebraska mainly boiled down to one thing: homesickness. The Nebraska native was at one time a Huskers commit, but went to Oklahoma instead for the opportunity to join one of the most successful programs in the sport’s history.

After achieving the highest of highs with the Sooners and stamping her legacy down as one of the greats in Norman across two illustrious seasons, Bahl made the move back to Nebraska. She expressed delight in getting to play close to home and near loved ones.

“It was hard to leave what has been so great the last two years, as far as just the people and everything,” Bahl said at her introductory press conference at Nebraska in June.

“You have to break it to your teammates and your coaches that you’ve decided to make the decision to come home, and so that was kind of sad. But once I got home and have started to settle in, unpack and everything finally, it’s just started to sink in that this is real, I’m not going to have to leave home again and I’m going to get to represent it. That’s just been a feeling of just happiness, relief, joy. Just very excited to be here.”

Will Nebraska Softball Play Oklahoma Softball In 2024?

No, as scheduled currently, Nebraska will not meet Oklahoma. While the Cornhuskers and the Sooners will both be attending both Puerto Vallarta College Challenge and Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, but the teams are not scheduled to play at either tournament or throughout regular season play.
