WNBA Preview 2024: The Dallas Wings and No.5 Pick Jacy Sheldon

The Dallas Wings remain one of the top teams amidst the WNBA standings and are poised to compete for a WNBA Championship this upcoming season. In the recent 2024 WNBA Draft the WIngs selected three guards in efforts to add more shooting and dynamic scoring.

In the first round the Dallas Wings drafted Jacy Sheldon at No.5 from Ohio State and Carla Leite at No.9  from France. Leite was just one of three overseas players to be drafted in the first round.

For the wings finals selection of the draft they selected Ashley Owusu from Penn State with the 33rd overall pick.

Here's a preview of the Dallas Wings ahead of the 2024 WNBA Season.

WNBA Preview 2024: Dallas Wings

The Dallas Wings are coming off a 22-18 season and earned the fourth seed in the WNBA Playoffs. In the 2023 Playoffs the WIngs were able to escape the first round for the first time in three consecutive postseason runs.

The wings season would end with a second round loss to the Las Vegas Aces who would go in to win the WNBA Championship .

The Wings are a very competitive team despite there postseason runs being cut short. With the majority of the roster remaining the same including the veteran front court of Kalani Brown and Teaira McCowan, this years draft picks should bring the extra spark needed on offense.

Who Is Jacy Sheldon

Jacy Sheldon a 5'10 guard from Ohio State finished her last season averaging 17.8 ppg while ranking third in scoring in the Big Ten. Sheldon also finished sixth in career points at Ohio State with 2,024 points.

Carla Leite from France is a pro-ready guard at  5'11 who averaged 15.6 ppg while shooting just under 50% from the field last season. Leite was also a member of France’s U20 National Team in 2023, she earned a Gold Medal in the European Championship after averaging 18.4 ppg and  4.3 assists while being regarded as the best guard in FIBA U20.

Ashley Owusu of Penn State is a 6'0 guard who averaged 18 ppg throughout the regular season and also led Penn State in their postseason run while shooting 47% from the field. Owusu has been recognized as one of the best shooting guards hailing from the Big Ten this year.

All three 2024 Draft Selections have the ability to make an impact and provide scoring depth to this seasoned Dallas Wings roster. It is unsure if all three draftees will make this seasons final roster as preseason games begin this weekend.

Final rosters will be decided prior to opening day which is scheduled for May 14, the Wings first regular season game is May 15 vs. the Chicago Sky.
