The eight-team, single-elimination Lone Star Conference Softball Championship marks the beginning of the 2025 postseason in spectacular fashion.

Defending national champion UT Tyler and No. 1 seed West Texas A&M headline the field, converging on Canyon, Texas, May 1-3. The three-day tournament sets the stage for the NCAA Championships, with both UT Tyler and WTAM expected to be at the forefront of the national title chase.

But both have targets on them with six tough LSC counterparts in tow. No. 3 seed Angelo State scored wins against both in the regular season, and the Rams have the firepower necessary to do so again in the high-stakes, single-elimination format.

In fact, with this being a one-and-done style tournament, the field is wide open. Get to know more about the LSC Softball Tournament with the following primer.

LSC Softball Tournament 2025 Teams

Here are the eight teams competing in the LSC Softball Tournament:

No. 1 West Texas A&M Softball

2025 Record:  50-4, 40-4 Lone Star Conference

What to Know: The Buffs have torn through the 2025 schedule with the nation's most prolific offense, scoring more than nine runs per game on average. Fueling West Texas A&M's explosive production at the plate is Emilee Boyer.

Boyer's 84 RBI lead NCAA Div. II softball, while her 20 home runs are the second-most nationally, ahead of the postseason. Boyer is one of five Buffs who have hit 10-plus homers, along with Lauren Granger (16), Avery Cannon (11) and Emily Liskai, Halie Stonekin,g and Abby Howel,l each with 10. All totaled, WTAM's 90 home runs lead Div. II.

In the circle, both Boyer and Heidi Vortherms have been lights out, producing sub-2.00 ERAs and WHIPs of 0.97 and 1.03.

No. 2 UT Tyler Softball

2025 Record: 49-4, 40-4

What to Know: Riding an 11-game winning streak into the postseason, UT Tyler is the hottest team in the LSC — and possibly all of college softball.

The Eagles matched No. 1 seed West Texas A&M's remarkable 40-4 LSC record, with the teams splitting their two-game series in late February. UT Tyler went 39-3 against the rest of the conference, combining elite pitching and top-to-bottom dangerous hitting.

Seven of UT Tyler's primary batters have produced an OPS of greater than 1.000, led by JT Smith's 1.445. Smith is hitting a whopping .481 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI. Fellow slugger Bailey Krolczyk has belted team-bests of 14 homers and 58 RBI.

Meanwhile, pitchers Kaylee Davis, Cera Blanchard, and Primrose Aholelei have all been electric, splitting starting duties. Each has a sub-1.50 ERA and has combined for 331 strikeouts.

No. 3 Angelo State Softball

2025 Record: 43-11, 34-10

What to Know: A dangerous Angelo State team, boasting one of the nation's most powerful hitters and a dominant starting pitcher, looks to break through as the LSC champion.

Rambelles sophomore Laylonna Applin hit .446 in the regular season with 14 home runs, 64 RBI, and a staggering .892 slugging percentage. In the circle, Cheyenne Floyd has delivered on a 1.59 ERA and .92 WHIP with 170 strikeouts, good enough to rank in the top 25 of all Div. II pitchers.

Angelo State also features some of the best baserunning offense in the country, averaging 2.26 steals per game. Four Rambelles have swiped at least 14 bases, led by Erin Plunkett's 28 on 31 attempts.

No. 4 Oklahoma Christian Softball

2025 Record: 36-18, 29-15

What to Know: The Eagles went on a late-season tear, ripping off eight straight wins in the penultimate week. They'll look to recapture that momentum at the LSC Tournament behind the sensational, strikeout-delivering duo of Jill Dickson and Grace Anderson.

Dickson has mowed down 176 batters through the regular season, 22nd in the nation and third-most in the LSC. Anderson has fanned 167, 27th nationally and fifth in the conference. With the two leading the charge, Oklahoma Christian averages 6.81 strikeouts per seven innings — the 20th-most prolific output in Div. II.

No. 5 Lubbock Christian Softball

2025 Record: 35-19, 26-18

What to Know: Lubbock Christian has plenty of positive momentum heading into Canyon. The Chaps won 11-of-12 to close out the regular season and climb up the LSC standings, including scoring a head-to-head win over West Texas A&M.

LCU's 4-1 defeat of the Buffs included Kristen Boyd nearly hitting for the cycle with a run-scoring single and double, and a homer. Boyd is one of three Chaps heading into the LSC Tournament with an OPS above 1.000, joining Kendra Levesque (1.201) and Baylea Myers (1.042). The trio has combined for 25 home runs and driven in 138 runs to lead LCU.

No. 6 Eastern New Mexico Softball

2025 Record: 30-24, 23-21

What to Know: The ENMU offense has the ingredients to light it up when the Greyhounds take to the LSC Tournament. Four ENMU hitters with more than 150 at-bats this season have produced batting averages of .349 or better: Aylene Lucero (.421, eight home runs, 40 RBI); Alondra Vasquez (.392, 11 home runs, 49 RBI); Christian Meneses (.357, seven home runs, 46 RBI); and Valeria Contreras (.349, five home runs, 37 RBI).

The Greyhounds offense is capable of standing toe-to-toe with any in the LSC. ENMU will also need big contributions from its pitching staff against the top-heavy offensive competition, starting right out of the gate against Angelo State.

No. 7 Cameron Softball

2025 Record: 29-23, 22-22

What to Know: The Aggies face a tough draw to kick off the LSC Tournament, facing UT Tyler for what will be the third consecutive game between the teams. The Eagles took a pair of 10-2 decisions to close out the regular season, setting up this opening-round matchup.

Cameron's Kaiden Boren comes in having slugged 12 home runs and driven in 33 runs, the latter second among all Aggies batters to Taylor Rowley's 35. Rowley has hit eight home runs to contribute to her run production. She is also one of three Aggies with at least 10 stolen bases on the year, joining Mikayla Richmond, who is 10-for-10, and Khmari Edwards with a team-high 12.

No. 8 St. Edward's Softball

2025 Record: 27-27, 21-23

What to Know: The Hilltoppers endured a late-season skid but held onto the final spot in the LSC Tournament. Awaiting them now is host West Texas A&M.

St. Edward's looks to take down the top-ranked Buffs, which will require a big game out of Hilltoppers star Katie Dillon. Dillon is among the most consistent batters in the LSC with a .428 average and .475 on-base percentage. She has parlayed her ability to get aboard into plenty of additional bases with 29 steals on 35 attempts.

With six primary batters sporting averages greater than .310, St. Edward's will try to parlay its ability to put runners on base into a dark-horse run through the single-elimination tournament.
