CAA Softball Tournament 2025 Teams
Here's every ranked team in the Coastal Athletic Association softball tournament.
No. 1 Delaware Softball
2025 Record: 37-14, 23-4
What to Know:
Sydney Shaffer’s sensational season at the plate powers the top-seeded Blue Hens. She closed the regular season batting .418 with a 1.409 OPS. Her 18 home runs rank tied for No. 25 nationally, and her 55 RBI lead the CAA.
Shaffer headlines a Delaware lineup featuring seven hitters batting .322 or better (min. 90 at-bats). As a team, the Blue Hens hit .320—36th-best in all of Division I.
Riding a 16-of-17 finish to the regular season, including a six-game win streak, Delaware enters the postseason with elite momentum. Anchoring that run is ace Billie Kerwood, who has logged a staggering 177 1/3 innings. Her CAA-best 1.58 ERA and 238 strikeouts make her one of the toughest pitchers in the country. Beating Delaware means solving Kerwood—and that’s no easy task.
No. 2 Elon Softball
2025 Record: 29-18, 21-6
What to Know:
Elon’s bid for a CAA title rests on dangerous one-two punches in both hitting and pitching. In the circle, McKenna McCard (1.93 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) and Taylor Cherry (2.68 ERA, 1.38 WHIP) form one of the league’s strongest tandems.
At the plate, Kaitlyn Wells boasts a .416 average and a team-leading 15 home runs. Chloe Hatzopoulos added 10 homers of her own while hitting .316.
The Phoenix closed the regular season strong, winning five straight series—including a sweep of third-seeded Charleston.
No. 3 Charleston Softball
2025 Record: 30-23, 20-7
What to Know:
Winners of 12-of-13 and riding a seven-game win streak, Charleston is peaking at the right time. The Cougars brought an aggressive, small-ball offense into the tournament, ranking No. 14 nationally with 2.13 steals per game.
Jay Wrightsman leads the team with 29 steals (31 attempts), followed by Austy Miller (21-of-25) and Karlee Hughes (16-of-18).
In the circle, Mackenzie Mathis and Ryley Kutter have combined for 17 complete games. With ERAs of 2.70 and 3.14, respectively, they give Charleston the edge heading into its May 7 opener.
No. 4 Campbell Softball
2025 Record: 34-8, 19-8
What to Know:
Tyra Parker leads the Camels with a .417 batting average and a conference-best 34 stolen bases (on 37 attempts), tying her for 10th in Division I.
She’s the catalyst for tournament hosts Campbell, who aim to make a surprise title run. The Camels face fifth-seeded Stony Brook in their opening matchup—marking the teams’ first meeting of the season.
No. 5 Stony Brook Softball
2025 Record: 25-23, 18-9
What to Know:
Stony Brook is one of the few teams in the country with two hitters batting above .430. Kyra McFarland (.444, 1.120 OPS) and Alyssa Costello (.430, 1.188 OPS, .685 SLG) headline a dangerous lineup.
The Seawolves boast seven players with multiple home runs. Before dropping their final series to Drexel, they had won six straight series—proof they can beat anyone in the CAA.
No. 6 Hofstra Softball
2025 Record: 20-26, 15-12
What to Know:
A strong finish secured Hofstra’s return to the CAA Tournament. With 18 all-time NCAA Tournament appearances, the Pride are among the Coastal’s most storied programs.
Sophomore Chelsea Villar enters the tournament hot, with three of her six home runs coming after April 11 and a five-game hitting streak in tow.
Pitcher Emma Fallon also stepped up late, highlighted by a dominant 15-strikeout outing against Monmouth. Her continued excellence could spark a surprise run toward a 19th NCAA berth.
