The 2026 college softball season is drawing closer. With just a few short hours to go until the first pitch in NCAA D2, there is plenty to be excited about as these teams get ready to take the field. 

With three divisions of NCAA softball action coming soon, the question on everyone's mind is simple. When is the college softball season starting?

Fans can look forward to the 2026 Mary Nutter Classic as one of the first major events of the college softball season for NCAA D1. 

With top talent like Texas Tech, Oklahoma, UCLA and more getting ready to take the field, here is all the information you need to know about when the college softball season starts for NCAA. 

When Does The College Softball Season Start?

For three divisions of softball across the NCAA landscape, there are several of different start dates with so much action on the horizon. 

NCAA D1 Softball Start Date

The highest division of college softball gets things started in non-conference tournament action on Feb. 5. 

The 2026 Mary Nutter Classic is slated to begin on Feb. 19 and can be streamed live on FloCollege

NCAA D2 Softball Start Date

The D2 schools will get their first taste of the softball action as early as Jan. 30. 

NCAA D3 Softball Start Date

The D3 schools get started as early as Jan. 31 for the first moments of softball action.
