A 2026 Mary Nutter Classic showdown will become a game to remember as Long State Beach upsets the No.4 ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Feb. 20

In what started as a pretty quiet ball game, the pitchers were dealing as both teams would not get the bats going until the bottom of the second when the Beach would score.

The bats game alive for Long Beach State as they would take the early 2-0 jump in the bottom of the second and third.

OU would turn around almost instantly and tie it back up at two all in the top half of the fourth, thanks to an Alyssa Parker solo shot and an RBI double tied it up.

It would be a tie game at two until the bottom of the sixth when the bats came alive for the Beach. Smart at-bats would allow for two runners to get on the bags with a walk and a reach on an error. A groundout moved the runners and an RBI single would give Long Beach the 3-2 lead.

Lina Apodaca sent way outside of the fence for a three-run shot to extend the lead to four for the Beach! The Sooners would battle back in their final three outs.

Kendall Wells went yard in her at bat to make it a 6-3 ball game. Terrones makes one crazy catch to snag what would have been the fourth run for OU, and a groundout with the next batter would leave the Sooners down to their final out.

Minor contributes a massive two-out RBI single to cut the Beach lead to two, but at the end of the day, the Beach pitching takes care of business and pick up the final strikeout for the win.

OU will move on to take on the Cal Bears, while Long Beach will move to take on Bethune-Cookman
