Cal State San Marcos, East Bay Top This Weeks Division II Softball Rankings
The top two-ranked D2 Softball teams in the nation hail from the CCAA, underscoring the strength and depth of West Coast softball this year.

As the 2026 NCAA Division II softball season continues to heat up, this week’s NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll showcases both powerhouse programs and rising contenders across the country. In a notable turn, the top two teams in the nation hail from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), underscoring the strength and depth of West Coast softball this year.
Cal State San Marcos ascended to the No. 1 spot in Week 3 after extending its impressive win streak to 12 with a sweep of Vanguard. The Cougars have combined relentless offense with suppressive pitching to compile a 12-1 record, earning national respect and validating their bid for postseason prominence.
Right behind them is Cal State East Bay, staking its claim at No. 2 with a 14-1 record. The Pioneers have cruised through the first few weeks of the season, including a standout doubleheader sweep against then-No. 16 Concordia-Irvine. Their only loss came from an opening day stumble against Colorado Christian. East Bay’s balanced attack and clutch performances have quickly made them one of the most buzzed-about teams in Division II this spring.
Beyond the CCAA, the national picture is rich with storylines. West Texas A&M holds steady at No. 3 after strong showings in tough matchups, while AUM — the only other team to collect a first-place vote this week — checks in at No. 4. Veteran contenders North Georgia and Francis Marion round out the top six, showcasing endurance and consistency through early-season tests.
Traditional softball powers like West Florida and Angelo State continue their climb, grabbing No. 7 and No. 8, respectively, thanks to big offensive performances and head-to-head wins against ranked squads. Meanwhile, programs such as Missouri Southern, Southern Arkansas, and Indianapolis occupy the mid-tier of the rankings, having earned respect through quality wins and weekend sweeps.
Several teams outside the top ten — including Oklahoma Christian, Saginaw Valley State, Saint Leo, and Concordia — highlight the competitive balance throughout the poll, each capable of explosive weekend performances that could shake up upcoming rankings.
