Tuesday’s TC/USA Nationals Blog

The first of the three club softball National Championships is taking place this week in Reno and Tahoe, Nev. as the TC/USA Nationals kicked off Tuesday. Friday championships will be decided at the 18U, 16U and 14U levels; you can read more on the event by clicking here.

FloSoftball will be at the TC/USA Nationals all week where games are being streamed at the Golden Eagle Complex (Fields 10-14). I’ll be sharing news and notes and you can check out the scores by clicking on the links below too. Keep refreshing your screen for the latest updates.

GORGEOUS BACKDROP

Yesterday, I drove up from Southern California with about 300 miles on the 395 North, one of the most picturesque and enjoyable drives ever (even if it was 8 ½ hours!).

One of the beautiful views of the fields at Golden Eagle in Sparks, Nev.

I’ll be at the Golden Eagle Complex all week which is where we’re streaming a number of the games… more on that in a second.

The event is in Sparks, Nev. and it’s one of the most beautiful settings for softball I’ve ever seen… I can see why Triple Crown Sports is back here for the second time in three years.

The Golden Eagle Complex is great too in that there are 12 fields that are all fairly close together. The other age groups, 16U and 14U, are in different locations—cities even in Tahoe and Reno—so I unfortunately won’t be able to blog from there, but will run scores from the events.

STREAMING SITUATION

There has been some confusion on which fields we’re streaming from this week at Gold Eagle, where the 18U teams are playing. Here’s the situation:

FloSoftball will be streaming at Fields 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 this week.
FloSoftball will be streaming at Fields 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 this week.

Originally we were going to do all the fields, but that changed and right now now we’re streaming Fields 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14.

We’re unable to do Fields 1-4 and 15 and part of the reason is related to what happened after the DeMarini Invitational Showcase which ended Sunday.

Most of our equipment was unable to be forwarded because of a storm (we heard a tornado) in the Midwest which led to the cancellation of flights. Donny Dreher of the Finesse said one of his players is arriving late Tuesday because of this mess in Chicago.

So we apologize for not being able to do all the fields and hope you understand. If you signed up because of the fields we’re unable to do, you can reach out to our Customer Support team and they’ll take care of you: support@flosports.tv.

WHAT TODAY IS ABOUT…

Today is the one and only day of pool play. Teams are playing two games and then tomorrow the march to Friday’s title games begins.

What happens, according to Event Director Kirsta Crawford, is a team that loses drops into a Loser’s Bracket in Platinum, but if you lose a second game you go to another bracket entirely.

Again, check out the links below to find out where everyone is in the brackets!

So today is a warm-up essentially and the march to Friday begins early Wednesday am. A lot of fun to be had!

GOOD TEAMS IN 18U

Head coaches Mark Griggs (Wichita Mustangs), Greg Schnute (EC Bullets) and Kevin Shelton (Texas Glory) will be seeing each other a lot in pool and bracket over the next few days.

At Boulder, the Texas Sudden Impact Gold – Dutton team won the Colorado Fireworks/Sparkler 18U tournament and went 1-1 today, losing the second game to Oklahoma Exclusive 1-0 on a home run.

There’s a strong pod of teams playing each other in the Texas Glory, Wichita Mustangs, Washington Ladyhawks, EC Bullets-Schnute, Sorcerer Gold and Gold Coast Hurricanes.

Other top teams playing at noon and then 2 pm are the Firecrackers-Rico and NC Lady Lightning.

LONE STAR INJURIES

Caught up with the Texas Glory and Texas Bomber head coaches, Kevin Shelton and Scott Smith, respectively, and both have two Hot 100 players on the sidelines.

The Glory are without 2015 infielder Maddie Montgomery, an Oklahoma State signee, after she badly sprained her ankle on a defensive play in Boulder. She’s out this week, but here and hopes to be back for PGF Nationals in two weeks.

The Bombers don’t have standout 2018 pitcher Brooke Vestal, an Oklahoma commit, because of a rib injury. She’s not here but is supposed to be at the JO Cup in Chino Hills, Calif. in late July and at PGF 16U Nationals in early August.
