Sam’s Blog: Day 4 at the Team NJ Summer Classic

Corona Angels (Calif.) pitcher Sam Manti, a 2016 right-hander who has committed to Washington, is on the East Coast this week to help her club team compete in the Team NJ Summer Classic in Edison and Bridgewater, N.J.
Manti will be blogging about her experiences all week while she’s at the tournament for FloSoftball.
Here’s what went down on Day 4 of the event on Saturday, June 27.
It’s the final day of the tournament and there’s a possibility of playing four games to get to the championship.
We started early, hoping to avoid the incoming rain. Our Girls focused on getting base runners and hitting to the right side of the field to move them over into scoring position.
Our pitchers did a great job allowing only one run to score. This allowed for a successful win and on to Game 2.
Our second game was against Pennsylvania Chaos. We fought hard by loading up the bases and putting pressure on the defense. However, even with runners in scoring position we never got them across home plate. After the 4-0 loss, our journey ended in the quarterfinals.
The team accomplished much these last few days. The girls on my team received much interest from college coaches. We worked on specific fundamentals that our team as a whole was lacking.
Although the players on the team this week were not from all the same Corona Angels teams, we are all from the same organization. We all worked together this week for a single goal, not only to win but to also to showcase our talents.
This was my first time to the East Coast. It’s been a whirlwind but also a learning experience. I’m looking forward to exploring New York City with my team on Sunday, which is our last full day here.
