Event Recap: Tulsa Elite Summer Invite (6/9)
Event Recap: Tulsa Elite Summer Invite (6/9)

The fifth annual Tulsa Elite Summer Invite wrapped up Sunday with champions crowned in the 18U, 16U and 14U age brackets.
More importantly, there was a large contingent of college coaches in attendance to evaluate the prospects on the field.

“We had another great event this year,” said Jeff Filali, head of the host organization, Tulsa Elite, and the Event Producer. “We had a great representation of college coaches including over 70 attending on Day 1, over 80 on Day 2, over 50 on Day 3 and around 10 on the final Day.”
“And you have to remember this event is held all at one park, which has 12 true fastpitch fields that are very close together, so there were college coaches everywhere. Also we had a wide variety of coaches that included representation from the Big 12, SEC, Pac 12, Big 10, Conference USA, Sunbelt, ACC, Big East, Missouri Valley and other conferences.”
Filali said one of the strengths of the Invite is the close proximity of all the teams and games.
“There are a few events out there that may draw more overall coaches then us,” Filali continues, “but rarely will you find the amount we draw per team and all at one park. At one 14U pool game between the Texas Glory Naudin and Tulsa Elite ’00 Jacks, it was reported that there were over 30 Div. 1 coaches watching that one single game, which resulted in Glory battling back to win in the last inning.”
Here are the top teams and how they finished in each age group:
In the 18U Division the host team Tulsa Elite 96 went undefeated through bracket play to win the championship by defeating the Colorado Stars-Scott s5-1 in the title game. The 18U Division was double elimination and the only team to be able to defeat the Stars was Tulsa Elite 96 which did it twice. Tulsa Elite 18A finished 3rd in the Division.
In the 16U Division Oklahoma Athletics-Madden was crowned the champions after the St. Louis Chaos forfeited the championship game due to only having one pitcher available who could throw and she had already pitched three straight games. The Germantown Red Devils and Oklahoma Ultimate Gold tied for 3rd place.
In the 14U Division the NWA Knockouts from Arkansas won the championship by defeating the Oklahoma Diamond Girls 2000 in the final game. Texas Glory Naudin and Worth Prospects tied for 3rd place.
Filali added, “I’d like to thank our sponsors and partners who helped make this such a great event including Tulsa Elite Sports, BAGSL (Broken Arrow Girls Softball League), OnDeck Softball, ODM Measurements, FloSoftball, Sterling Athletics, Broken Arrow Softball Academy, National Scouting Report, Sports Locker and Traveling Teams.”
“Also, a huge thank you to Sloan VanBurkleo (BAGSL Manager), Randle King (head of the grounds crew) and Jerry Dailey (UIC); these three people go over and above to make sure we have one of the best events in the nation. Without them it would never be possible.”
