Speedy infielder sets state h.s. record (5/4)

University of South Carolina signee Alexis Mack, a senior at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High in Broadview Heights, Ohio, set the Ohio high school softball state record for most career steals over the weekend when she swiped her 213th stolen base.

Alexis has used her 2.6 home-to-first speed to become the all-time steals leader in Ohio softball history.

The 2015 Hot 100 honoree is currently at 215 and counting and the big milestone came against four-time defending Div. I state champion Hoover High from North Canton. Ironically, Hoover is the school that produced Oregon freshman Jenna Lilley; Alexis and Jenna are good friends as both played in the Beverly Bandits club organization.

Alexis helped her Bandits 16U team win the 2013 PGF Nationals and last summer was part of the 18U team that tied for third.

The Ohio native also broke her own Div. I state record this year for single season steals as she now has 60 so far this year; in 2012 she had set the previous mark with 57.

This spring, the second baseman has helped lead Brecksville-Broadview Heights to a 22-1 record and No. 1 ranking in the Ohio Div. I coaches’ poll. The school is located in Northern Ohio, between Cleveland and Akron.

She’s already the school’s single season and career record holder for runs scored, batting average, OBP, hits, triples, and stolen bases.

Alexis is having a monster year in other categories as well as she’s hitting .724 (55-for-76) with 44 runs and 19 RBI and has an on-base percentage of .750. The senior has reached base in 70 of her 86 plate appearances.

As a junior she hit .670 and lead the Bees to a 29-3 record.

Here are some other noteworthy accomplishments Alexis has achieved (and several she is still chasing):

  • Currently ranks 1st all time in career stolen bases for all divisions (215 and counting)
  • Currently ranks 3rd all time in career runs scored for all divisions (195 and counting)
