Amanda’s blog: handling distractions (4/29)

It’s an exciting time to be Amanda Lorenz, the No. 1 ranked prospect in the 2015 Hot 100.

Not only is the Moorpark (Calif.) High senior having another big year as she’s hitting .510 with an on-base percentage of .671 – due in large part to a career high 23 walks in 73 plate appearances (versus only two strikeouts) – it won’t be long until she’s playing her last club season with the defending PGF 18U National Champion OC Batbusters- Haning/Stith team.
Last summer she hit .478 for the PGF Nationals week and had at least one hit in every game with two hits in four of the seven played.
Then, in August, Amanda will head to Gainesville, Fla. to play for the defending NCAA Div. I National Champion Florida Gators!
With all that’s going on in her life, we asked Amanda to talk about staying focused and handling all the distractions that could be overwhelming at this point of her life.
In today’s blog, the preseason USA Today All-American and 2014 1st Team Full Count Softball All-American says, “I have found the best way to keep everything under control is to make things manageable and stay calm. I try to keep everything in its own “box” so that other stresses don’t affect my other duties.”
The Florida commit has won several national, state and local honors at the high school level including MaxPreps Underclass All-American, CalHiSports.com All-State and Ventura County Star Player of the Year.
On the club side, she helped lead Team Mizuno-Stith to a PGF 18U National Championship game in 2013 and in 2012 she was part of the 16U team that won the PGF Nationals title.

Toward the end of the school year there are many distractions.

Between school, high school softball, travel ball practice, homework, and the many senior activities coming up, it can get a little overwhelming at times!
I have found the best way to keep everything under control is to make things manageable and stay calm. I try to keep everything in its own “box” so that other stresses don’t affect my other duties.
Toward the end of my senior year I am becoming very eager to get out of school and start my new chapters in life. Sometimes, though, it gets very hard to focus in class as “Senioritis” is definitely setting in!

Since college is coming up so fast, it is very hard to stay focused in the here and now. However, since college is always on my mind, I am trying to take advantage of every opportunity to get better and improve.
I am also very excited for travel ball season to start and be surrounded by my incredible teammates who always hold me accountable and push me to be a better player.
I hope all senior softballers get the most out of their last couple games in their high school uniform!
As I like to say, “Don’t cry because it’s over… be happy because it happened!”
Til next time,
Amanda
