FullCountSoftball.com: Coaches say you’re one of the best fielding shortstops in the country… tell us about your defense, what you think you do well and how you work to improve in the field?
Hannah Adams: As far as my defense, I get good angles to the ball, I have a strong arm and I have a good range in both directions.  Since I have been working with Lincoln Martin at Top Tier, my defense has improved in every aspect.  I also practice at home in my backyard every day the weather is good.

FCS.com: You’re also said to have a “high softball IQ.” What do you think that means and what to you attribute this strength?
HA: I think having a high softball IQ means thinking ahead of the play and knowing where I need to go with the ball if it comes to me.  I attribute it to playing at a high level of ball for many years and good coaching.

FCS.com: Let’s talk recruiting… tell us how you were first seen by the Florida coaches, then how long until they offered?
HA: I was first seen by them at the Scenic City Showcase second year 12U.  I went to camps at the university and they also watched me for a year before they offered in January of my freshman year.

FCS.com: What led into the decision and why did you commit then?
HA: I had visited other colleges and being at the University of Florida and getting to know Coach (Tim) Walton and Coach (Kenny) Gajewski is what made me sure I wanted to go there.  I committed then because I knew it was where I wanted to go and felt that the time was right.

FCS.com: How did you tell the coaches, in person, on the phone, on an unofficial visit?
HA: I told them in person on an unofficial visit, right after they offered me.

FCS.com: Describe your emotions around telling the Gators, were you more nervous or more excited?
HA: I was a little of both.  I was so excited to have that opportunity but felt a little nervous while telling Coach Walton.

Hannah has played softball since she was four years old.
Hannah has played softball since she was four years old.

FCS.com: What is it about softball that you love so much to dedicate your life to it?
HA: : I love competing and being part of a team.  It is something I have loved playing since I was four years old.  My parents and coaches have given me a lot of support and opportunities to continue to play since a young age.  I love being on the softball field and continuing to challenge myself and keep improving my game.

FCS.com: What’s been a top memory or two for you in your athletic career?
HA: On an individual level, winning the Gwinnett County Defensive Player of the year as a freshman was a big accomplishment and being No. 12 on the Hot 100 for 2017’s.  On a team level, placing 3rd at Nationals as a second year 12U team for Georgia Impact and placing 5th as a first year 14U.
