What happens on an unofficial visit? (4/11)

Have you ever wondered what an “unofficial visit” is if you’ve never been on one? Say you’re a promising softball prospect and you catch the eye of a particular university and they want you to come spend the weekend with the.

Pictured here are five standout players who visited Mississippi State last fall (left to right): Taylor Kelly, Emily Heimberger, Regan Green, Madison Cousineau, and Sabrina Turner.

Pretty cool, huh? But what happens on such a trip?

Of course, every university will do it differently and a lot will depend on the time of year.

For example, if a player visits in the fall there’s a good chance she’ll be taking in a home football game to partake of the energy and unity of the school’s fan base.

If it’s in the spring, then she’ll probably be checking out tone of the school’s softball games.

Below is an actual unofficial itinerary for a top player who’s on the campus of a major DI school this week. We’ve removed specifics to honor the request of the player and university’s anonymity, but you get an idea what happens on one of these special trips!
