Scouting Report: Melissa is a leadoff hitter who is aggressive at the plate and doesn’t walk much, but hardly strikeouts either. She has excellent speed to get down the line and turn gap hits into doubles and triples. Melissa is quick with her first step and has good lateral movement with fluid and quick feet and hands. She plays second and outfield for the Choppers and leads off.

Softball Background: She started playing softball at age 5 in Santa Clarita (Calif.) and began travel ball play at age 10 with the Choppers and Sliderz. Melissa would go on to play with the Firecrackers – Chavez 14U team before setting in with the So Cal Choppers team coached by Gary Fausett. Also coaching on that team are assistants Robert Ibarra and former Univ. of Pacific catcher Amy Moore. She has also taken fielding lessons from two of the top club coaches in the country, Sean Brashears (Firecrackers) and Mike Stith (OC Batbusters and EM Training) and hitting lessons from another elite coach, Gary Fausett of the So Cal Choppers.

Coach’s Comments: “Melissa is a fierce competitor, she plays down and dirty and gives 100 percent on everything she does. She plays hard and makes good contact with the bat.  With her speed, the defense has to make a good play to get her out.”
Gary Fausett, Head Coach of So Cal Choppers 14U
