NATIONAL RANKINGS

By Mark Tennis – Editor, CalHiSports.com

The first few weeks of the FAB 50 regular season national softball rankings are dominated by several tournaments with the Best of the West event in California concluding last Saturday and being followed by this week’s Kissimee Klassic in Florida.

At the Best of the West, host Pacifica of Garden Grove (a perennial FAB 50 ranked team) earned a spot in the final opposite No. 1 Mission Viejo and met the same fate as others have: the Mariners were no-hit by All-American Taylor McQuillin.

The Kissimmee Klassic has many top national teams including No. 3 Hagerty and No. 14 Bradford.
The Kissimmee Klassic has many top national teams including No. 3 Hagerty and No. 14 Bradford.

Unbeaten American Heritage is not in the Kissimee Klassic but many other highly ranked Florida teams from different state divisions will be and it’s that mix of top teams from different state divisions that makes the tourney so important.

In this week’s FAB 50, previous No. 4 Horizon of Scottsdale, Ariz., previous No. 8 Bloomingdale of Valrico, Fla; and previous No. 12 Norco of Norco, Calif., all suffered multiple losses with two of those teams (Bloomingdale & Norco) dropping completely out of the rankings.

One team making a huge jump is Pinnacle of Phoenix, Ariz. The Pioneers were one of the teams last week to pin a loss against Horizon and won the title of the Desert Mountain tournament with a 6-5 win over Horizon. They also had a win last week over four-time defending state champ Red Mountain.
