Amanda’s blog: high school softball (2/27)

For tens of thousands of softball players across the nation, this time of year is exciting but bittersweet: it’s the senior year of high school ball and, in a few months, their high school careers will be over and they’ll likely never play softball again.

That’s not the case for the No. 1 ranked softball player in the 2015 class, Amanda Lorenz from Moorpark, Calif., who has signed with the Univ. of Florida and has a bright future ahead of her.
Still, Amanda says, “It’s very sad thinking I won’t ever play softball with these girls (high school teammates) again. I grew up with them and it’s going to be a tough day on senior day filled with many tears and hugs.”
In today’s blog, Amanda talks about her thoughts heading into this season after she was a 2014 1st Team Full Count Softball All-American last spring when she hit .642 with eight home runs and 22 doubles.
She also added “National Champion” to her resume as she batted lead-off for the OC Batbusters – Haning/Stith team that won the PGF 18U Premier Nationals in August. Amanda went .478 for the week in bracket play and had at least one hit in all seven games (with two hits in four of the seven).
As a sophomore, the Florida commit won several national, state and local honors at the high school level in 2013 including MaxPreps Underclass All-American, CalHiSports.com All-State and Ventura County Star Player of the Year after batting .626 with 17 home runs and compiling a spectacular 1.377 slugging percentage.
In that same year she also helped lead Team Mizuno-Stith to the PGF 18U National Championship game and in 2012 she was part of the 16U team that won the PGF national title.

High school season is quickly approaching and I’m very excited for the season to start!
I am very blessed with a great group of girls on my team this year and I’m eager to get out on the field and compete with all of them!

I can’t believe how fast the first three years have gone by and now I’m entering my senior season. My freshman, sophomore, and junior years we won our league so I plan on completing that goal once again.
My goals for this season include taking it all in and enjoying every minute of my last high school season. I will never represent my hometown across my chest ever again so I want to go out with a bang.
Also, my team has never won a CIF championship and I would love to accomplish that goal this year as well.
It is so crazy to me that I have been playing softball with some of my teammates since I have been six years old; that’s 12 years of friendships and being teammates!
It’s very sad thinking I won’t ever play softball with these girls again. I grew up with them and it’s going to be a tough day on senior day filled with many tears and hugs.
On the brighter side, I couldn’t be more excited to finish this season because it is one step closer to me being in Gainesville playing Division 1 softball like I have always dreamed of!
Good luck to all girls in their high school seasons!
Til next time,
Amanda
