Team Profile: a top 14U club we missed (2/19)

OK, we’ll admit it… we dropped the ball and neglected a strong team from Texas that’s getting a lot of looks from recruiters and has had good success in the last few years.  Again: we will be updated ALL the FAB 50 Club Rankings and this is why, when we make mistakes!

So, without further ado, here’s the team that should’ve been in our FAB 50 14U list…

***

Team: TEAM MIZUNO IMPULSE 2018
Coach: Tony Woodall
Division: 14U
When Started: The core of the team has been together since 10U when it finished 3rd at USSSA 10U World Series in Orlando. Has played ASA Nationals in 12U and 14U.
Strengths: loaded with pitching, strong on defense and can play small or big ball
Team Accomplishments (finishes in past Nationals):

2014: 16U TCS Ronald McDonald Tournament – 1st Place Mini Bracket
2014: 14U Colorado Freedom Invitational – 1st Place
2014: ASA 14U A Nationals Qualified – Pool Winner
2014: 14U Top Gun Invitational – 5th Place
2014: 14U Tulsa Elite Invitational Pool Winner – Undefeated
2014: ASA 14U A Regional Qualifier Winner
2013: ASA 12U A Nationals (33rd out of 100 teams)
2012: Ronald McDonald 12U – 4th Place
2012: ASA 12U Southern Nationals – 5th Place
2011: USSSA 10U Texas North State Champions
2011: ASA 10U A Fort Worth Metro Champions
2011: USSSA 10U World Series -3rd Place

Recruiting Attention: The team’s players are receiving attention from schools in the ACC, Conference USA, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC.

Coach’s Comment: “The team is being heavily recruited, especially the pitchers. Two of them have offers. The team is made up of athletes with 2000 birth dates but graduate in 2018 or 2019. Each of the freshmen made their varsity high school team, which is no small feat considering many go to the largest schools in Texas. Almost every girl on the roster has been invited to an Ondeck Softball National Jamboree.”

Tony Woodall, Head Coach

Here’s a look at the Team Mizuno Impulse 2018 squad with comments from Coach Woodall:

Bailey Tindell
Bailey Tindell

— P Bailey Tindell (2018, uncommitted)
“Bailey as only pitched for a couple years and has a huge upside as she gains confidence in the circle. She throws her drop ball in the low 60’s and has a nasty drop curve. She has been working on her offspeed stuff and developing a rise ball during the off season.”

— 1B/OF Claudia “Shorty” Ware (2018, uncommitted)
“Claudia is a pure hitter who loves to play the game and it shows when she is on the field. She can power slap, drive the ball through the gap and soft slap as evidenced by her four home runs in 2014 (four were in-the-park). Claudia has great hands and the speed to go with it. She is always one of the statistical offensive team leaders on our team. ”

— CF Caraline Woodall (2019, uncommitted)
“Caraline is of the best drag bunters and soft slappers in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. She can hit the gaps or slap depending on the situation. She has 2.7 home-to-first speed and can steal outs in the gaps defensively. Caraline is usually one of the OBP leaders and she scores a lot of runs. She really increased her strength in the last 12 months too.”

— 2B/SS/OF Madyson Lohman (2018, uncommitted)
“Don’t let her small stature fool you, Madyson plays like she is 6-foot tall. She can see plays before they happen and is always in the right spot defensively. Madyson is a very gritty player at the plate and can drive the ball or slap through the gaps. She’s probably the best overall athlete on the team and is always near the top on the statistical categories.”

— 1B/OF/SS Jordan Freas (2018, uncommitted)
“Jordan is new to the team, but has excellent size and speed. She will drive the ball and provide a lot of defensive flexibility.”

— SS/2B Kasey Simpson (2018, uncommitted)
“Kasey is a kid who can play anywhere on the field. She has excellent range and arm strength and reads the ball off the bat as good as anyone. Kasey hit seven home runs in 2014 and has many more coming in 2015.”

Bethany Edwards
Bethany Edwards

— C/3B/SS Bethany Edwards (2018, uncommitted)
“Bethany is a very versatile player who always seems to get the barrel to the ball. She drives in runs, can hit for power and average and also has excellent speed and arm strength.”

— 3B/1B/OF Avery Zeigler, 2018, uncommitted)
“Avery is the most improved player over the years and is very versatile. She can play either corner and run down balls in the outfield. Avery is a very clutch hitter and loves the pressure. She has always been in the top five in hitting stats since 10U. She hit six home runs in 2014 and will have many more in 2015.”

— P Katelyn Terrell (2018, uncommitted)
“Katelyn is the model of consistency and composure in the circle. She has won games all over the country for the team. She can spin the ball in and out and has a great changeup. Katelyn is consistently in the upper 50’s with her screwball and curveball.”

— P McKenzie Clemens (2019, uncommitted)
“McKenzie has excellent size and composure on the mound. She has an excellent drop ball that gets a lot of ground balls for the defense. McKenzie will be counted on this year to shut down opposing offenses who like to swing for the fences.”

Aleah Bozarth
Aleah Bozarth

— C/3B Aleah Bozarth (2019, uncommitted)
“Aleah is the most recruited girl on the team for good reason. She has excellent size and strength, a cannon for an arm and plays very well defensively at both catcher and third. Aleah can also drive the ball to all fields.”

— OF/SS Kathleen Clum (2018, uncommitted)
“Kathleen is a multi-sport athlete who never gets outworked. She has played every position except catcher for the team over the years. Kathleen has excellent size, arm strength and can drive the gaps at the plate.”

— P Mattison Boyd (2019, uncommitted)
“At 6-foot-1 and still growing, Mattison is a two-sport athlete who is getting a lot of attention. She plays club volleyball as well as softball. She has a 60 mph riseball to go along with a nasty change up. She was new to the team last fall and is getting better every time she is in the circle.”

— 1B/3B Emma Tindell (2018, uncommitted)
“Emma just joined us but she has the best bat speed of anyone on the team and drives the ball to all fields. She hits bombs and may be the surprise of the spring. She hit 20-plus home runs in the last two years and is the prototypical corner player who drives in runs when you need them.”
