Delaney’s blog: my New Year’s resolutions (1/7)

Delaney Elling, the outstanding first baseman/catcher from Washington, Pa., says her holidays were enjoyable if only because her entire family was together “just enjoying each other” but now it’s time to go to work having an awesome 2015!

In this blog, Delaney mentions seven resolutions she’s going to strive to keep.
The 6-foot junior is from Washington, Pa. and was honored as a member of the 2016 Hot 100. She is talented enough on the field to play in the Big Ten at Penn State, while also smart enough to have been offered by Stanford with her 4.0 GPA and 30 on the ACT.
Delaney plans on majoring in Bio-Medical Engineering once she hits the Nittany Lion campus.
As a sophomore this past spring, she was named a Pennsylvania AAA All-State 1st Team catcher after hitting .684 with 32 RBI.

It’s 2015… Can you believe it?
Another year has passed and yet again I find myself looking back and wondering, “Where did the time go?”

First things first, Happy New Year to everyone and I hope your holidays were as wonderful as mine. With my older sister home from college, my whole family was together and we spent our time watching movies, playing board games and simply enjoying each other’s company.
On a different note, I was fortunate enough to ring in the first seconds of the new year with my two best friends. Leading up to midnight we reflected on our favorite events and memories we shared in the past year. After the big moment, our conversation shifted gears and we began to discuss our hopes and goals for the new year.
While I personally am not a huge fan of New Year’s resolutions, (I don’t understand why people wait until a new year to “start fresh” when we can change our ways at any time, but that’s just me) I came up with quite a few of them for me to accomplish 2015.
Although I won’t share all of my resolutions, I figured I would share some of my favorite with you:
- One: I want to enjoy Every. Single. Moment.
- Two: I want to write more, about everything and anything.
- Three: I want to talk to more people, ask more people how their day is going.
- Four: I want to give more random compliments or just to be kinder in general.
- Five: I never want to miss an opportunity to show my thanks or my love.
- Six: I want to give my best effort and be proud of myself no matter the outcome.
- Seven: I want to help more people no matter whether it is a small or large gesture.

Now I’m sure I will break all of these at least once and, if we are being honest, probably a whole lot more than that, but I think that it’s the thought that counts in this case.
As Resolution Six says, if I give my best effort at trying to fulfill these resolutions I can be nothing but proud of myself.
And for the quote that will be running through my head motivating me for at least the next month, “Make the next 12 months the Year of You. It’s time to bring your best, then better it. Whatever you do, make it count.”
I wish you all the best of luck in accomplishing your New Year’s resolutions and I hope each and every one of you has a wonderful 2015!
