There are great, dramatic stories all over softball and one you may not have heard of comes from the Univ. of Washington last year involving Courtney Gano.

Courtney hadn’t been a catcher since she was eight years old, but an injury that knocked out the starter put her in the position of needing to fill in for the Huskies

She worked her tail off and was having a great season last year as a redshirt sophomore; she had started 24 games and was cruising… until she started noticing something wrong with her body which would not only knock her out of the line-up, it put a serious scare into her and her family as it went unidentified for over a month.

In this video, you’ll see two clips taken last month at the Jen Schro Catching Clinic in Anaheim, Calif.:

  1. Jen Schroeder introduces Courtney to the many elite catchers at the workout and explains how the college backstop had worked so hard to get to that point and
  2. you’ll hear from Courtney herself about what the mysterious ailment that sidelined her (she still finished with the third-most runners thrown out (9) in the Pac 12!) and where she is today…

The audio is a bit tough to hear in the first part because of the ambient noise—it was a full-blown workout after all!—but listen through it as Jen and Courtney have some great things to say.
