At the NFCA Convention held in Las Vegas, the event’s last day (Saturday, Dec. 6) included a brunch honoring the Coaching Staffs of the Year.
This short video shows the speeches by Monte Sherrill from Alexander Central High (Taylorsville, N.C.) and Kevin Shelton of the Texas Glory organization as they are honored for their success in 2014.
— Head coach Monte Sherrill and assistant coaches Darrell Adkins, Terry Waugh, Brittany Loudermilt, Megan Laxton, Randy Elder and Robby Wilkinson of Alexander Central High School (N.C.) were honored as the National High School Coaching Staff of the Year.
Sherill and his coaches led the Cougars to a 35-0 mark and the program’s fourth Class 4A state title in the last six years. The team included the coach’s two daughters: Vada, who was the Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year, and Bailey, who was the tournament MVP. Central also has a 67-game win streak going as it enters the 2015 season.
— Head coach Kevin Shelton and assistant coaches Tracy Beard, Lisa Hough, Lynette Shelton, Chaley Brickey and Aaron Weintraub of the Texas Glory were selected as the National Travel Ball Coaching Staff of the Year.
The Glory finished fifth (highest in their region) in the U.S. Club Rankings highlighted by several top six finishes which included winning the 18 Power Pool of the Colorado Fireworks Super 64.
