One of the really nice guys in club softball is Mike Perez of the Corona Angels organization. He coached a 14U team that tied for 9th at the PGF 14U Premier Nationals this summer (the Angels-Tyson team won it all) and Mike also has a 16U team with a lot of talent.

At the Diamond 9 Sun Class in early November I asked the coach about his team and he said I had to interview a pair of sisters, Harley and Billie Jean Wells, who play for him and after interviewing the pair you’ll see why he’s high on them.
It was one of the most fun and lively interviews I’ve shot in a while.
Harley is a 2016 pitcher and Billie Jean a 2017 infielder. Both play at La Hambra High (Calif.) and Harley is starting to get recruiting attention from schools all over the country while Billie Jean is just starting down that path.
“They are doing great,” Coach Perez told me today, “and are getting lots of interest from some great schools in competitive conferences. They both are adjusting to the Angels’ style of play and I am confident they will succeed. I am blessed to have the Wells family as a part of our Corona Angels family.”
I also spoke to the girls’ mother, Patricia, who said the sisters “are really close and it really works that they’re together playing on Mike’s team.”
Whether they play in college together remains to be seen although one factor would make it easier for them to separate: “Harley is more of a cold weather person,” laughed their mother, “while Billie Jean is more of a sun girl. She needs the light!”
