Event: Sun Classic National Skills Camp (10/30)
There are a lot of showcases and camps going on this fall, but one of the best of the entire year takes place today.
The Diamond9 Sun Classic in Orlando, Fla. at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex kicks off today with the National Skills Camp and runs from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm EST.
I had a chance to attend it last year – here’s the link to the recap of the 2013 National Skills Camp – and was very impressed at the quality of college coaches running the drills and the caliber of talent that attended.
And, of course, a key reason for the camp in the first place is the exposure to major colleges. This year’s list of colleges attending includes Arizona, Auburn, Boston College, BYU, Bryant, College of Charleston, Dartmouth, Florida State, Georgia, Harvard, Indiana, James Madison, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Penn State, South Alabama, Syracuse and UConn among other.
Last year’s camp featured players like 2017 pitcher Victoria Galvan, who has committed to South Carolina, 2015 pitcher Taylor Rahach, who is headed to Coastal Carolina, 2016 infielder Madison Christiansen, who has picked Butler, 2017 pitcher Mariah Mazon, who has verbaled to Oregon State and 2016 shortstop Kirsten McMonigle, who has committed to Georgia State, just to name a few.
