By all indications, the 10th year of the West Coast National Elite Camp produced by OnDeck Softball was a rousing success.

This year's group was perhaps the best ever at the OnDeck-produced camp.
This year’s group was perhaps the best ever at the OnDeck-produced camp.

According to event organizer, Derek Allister, there was a record number of college coaches — over 100 — at the event held at Mt. SAC in Walnut, Calif.

Allister also said several college coaches told him this was his best group ever.

“This is a compliment to the quality of the kids,” the OnDeck Softball president explained Thursday evening. “The coaches were very impressed with the level of play.”

And it wasn’t just the skills and talent on the field, many felt it was the personality of the group that impressed.

“I thought that was one of the strengths of the players,” the former basketball coach continued. “They players collectively had a willingness to be engaged and involved in the process. Their personalities came out and they were having fun; that was part of the energy—right down to the end of the day they were having fun together.”

Here’s a list of 17 players of all ages and positions who Allister noted as having impressed him and/or the college coaches during Thursday’s skills workout (players are listed alphabetically)…

***

P/OF Ryan Denhart (2017, So Cal A’s – Richardson)
“Ryan is a repeat attendee and is just scratching the surface. She has the size and strength that coaches like with improving spins and velocity.”

P/1B Lauren Dvorak (2018, San Diego Power Surge Gold)
“Lauren is a Dana Sorensen pitching student who had a coming out party today, throwing 61 mph and showing the potential for good spin.”

P/OF Maddy Dwyer (2017, OC Batbusters)
“Maddy has increased her velocity to over 60 mph, which is excellent for her age. She’s always located the ball well and is getting better every time I see her.”

C/OF Lauren Esplin (2017, OC Batbusters – Briggs 16U)
“Lauren is a lefty hitter who had a fabulous day swinging the bat. She showed power and the ability to hit for average. Lauren really did a great job.”

SS/1B Danielle Gibson (2017, So Cal A’s)
“I don’t think a lot of people knew who she was coming in today and she’s just flat out a big-time hitter. There are no holes in that swing, she will hit for high numbers and power in the next couple of years.”

MIF Kailey “Kiwi” McDaniel (2016, California Grapettes)
“Kiwi had a very nice day, she was very good with the glove and displayed more range than I remember from a year ago. She’s getting bigger and stronger, last she was a singles and doubles hitter but is now getting to the point where she can launch the ball a little bit.”

SS/OF Alyson Monzo (2016, NorCal Firecrackers – Blanco)
“Alyson is very smooth defensively and at the plate showed the ability to hit for power and average.”

Pat Moore throws early in the day.

P/OF Pat Moore (2017, All American Mizuno – Walker)
“Pat is a lefty pitcher from Oregon and wowed some people today. She had legit spin and solid velocity for a young kid.”

SS/2B Destinee Noury (2020, OC Batbuster – Mauga) and OF Grace Guzman (2020, KG Hitters – Garcia 16U)
“These two 2020’s more than held their own and both are sure to be high level recruits. They have an amazing skill set for their age— there’s a sophisticated level to their play and they also have that poise and athleticism that allows them to be out there with girls four to five years older and competing. You don’t see that very often.”

OF/SS Deijah Pangilinan (2019, Sorcerer Gold)
“Deijah was another who swung the bat well and had the coaches talking.”

OF Courtney Pestka (2016, Idaho Sliders)and OF Jenna Kean (2017, So Cal A’s – Quarles)
“These players are two of the best defensive outfielders we’ve had at our events in several years. Both can cover the outfield in ways you don’t see very much.”

OF/P Sami Reynolds (2018, Snohomish SWAT)
“Sami had a 88 mph bat speed measurement and that’s four inches off the barrel. For someone who’s not that big, that’s phenomenal and one of the best measurements we’ve ever seen.”

1B/3B Annabelle Salas (2019, Corona Angels)
“Annabelle put on a show in the afternoon when she was really launching the ball. She was something else.”

P/1B Lainey Stephenson (Firecrackers – Blanco 16U)
“Lainey displayed some excellent velocity and a strong screwball. She’s also a bulldog in the circle.

C/3B Colleen Sullivan (2018, OC Batbusters – Campbell)
“Colleen is a fabulous receiver who has all the intangibles you want: leadership, vocal qualities and her offensive game is getting better each time I see her.”
