Recruiting News & Notes (10/10)

Lot of news happening as we wrap up this work and school week and head into a weekend of play on the field…

*****

Cameron Stanford will stay in-state to play at the next level.
Cameron Stanford will stay in-state to play at the next level.

*** Got a nice note from Coach Mike Stanford from the Georgia Impact –Stanford team. He wrote to inform us that he had two verbals:

— P/OF Cameron Stanford (2017, Georgia Tech)
— 3B Ally Hindman (2016, West Georgia)

Also, 2016 pitcher Brook Barfield, who was fairly unknown—at least nationally as we put together the Hot 100 for the junior class and she was ranked No. 22 overall—is starting to see her recruiting pick up as we strongly suspected it would

“I’ve gotten many phone calls about her over the past couple of weekends,” says Coach Stanford, “and she’s currently talking with several D-1 programs. Very excited.”

*** While we’re in Georgia, here are three commits from the East Cobb Bullets – Council team courtesy of head coach Scott Council

— C Jordan Monterosso (2016, West Georgia)
— IF Gracelyn Newman (2015, Southern Union)
— 1B Hallie Rutledge (2015, Mississippi College)

*** One more note from the Peach State… thanks to Coach Rick Jeffreys who says his team got another verbal of note this week:

“I wanted to let you know of another commitment for the Georgia Impact Jeffreys: Samantha Thomas, a 2017 INF/OF who has committed to Virginia.”

“Sam is a kid that plays much bigger that her stature. She has a tremendous glove, arm, and speed but where she makes the biggest impact is at the plate. She has led our team in home runs the past two seasons and currently leads her high school team in HR’s.”

“Sam is a powerful kid that gets unbelievable torque. She has hit some of the furthest homers and hardest hit balls I have ever seen. She is one of those kids that the ball just comes off her bat different than any other kid. Sam and her family are very excited to be Cavaliers! I know the Virginia staff is anxious to get her on campus!”

*** The Bownet Gold (Calif.) team has some recruiting news as well.

— Madysen (Mady) Cossack has committed to Siena College. Cossack is a 2015 first baseman and has been the No. 3 hitter for Bownet Gold since last fall. She batted .346 with 8 home runs as a sophomore for Agoura (Calif.) High School and hit .413 with 6 doubles, 2 triples and 6 home runs as a junior in the spring. She also hit .375 with a double, home run and team-leading 5 RBIs at PGF Nationals over the summer. Mady is an outstanding hitter and had looks from many big schools, including ones from the Pac-12.

Irene Rivera, a 2015 catcher, committed to Stony Brook. Rivera hit .357 with 10 doubles and 2 home runs last season for Granada Hills High School (based on partial stats entered into MaxPreps). She had one game where she went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles a home run and 9 RBIs.

Cielo Meza, a 2015 pitcher committed to Long Beach State, left Bownet and joined the So Cal Pumas.

Jessica Moore, a 2015 infielder committed to NC State, is now playing for Bownet. She was previously with the Irvine Sting and Firecrackers – Snyder.

Danielle Watson is a fast-rising 2017 prospect.

*** A pitcher to keep an eye on from the Midwest is Danielle Watson, a 2017 pitcher with the Indiana Magic Gold.

As a freshmen Danielle was 8-2 in high school ball with a 1.11 ERA and had 101 K’s in 75 innings pitched.  She also threw five no hitters.

Danielle led Indiana Magic Gold to a runner-up finish in the Triple Crown/USA Nationals in Atlanta this past summer.

She finished her travel ball season with a .439 batting average, a .650 slugging average, five home runs and 51 RBI. In the circle she was 19-8 with a 1.40 ERA while striking out 189 batters in 149 innings.

Danielle is being recruited by teams from conferences like the Big Ten, MAC, USA, SEC, and ACC. She has offers but according to one source “is being patient.”

She also is ranked No. 2 academically in her class of about 1,000 students.

*** The Angels Premier 14U team out of Frisco, Texas has three young players getting looks:

— IF/C Alex Massie (2018, Infield / RHC) being recruited by SEC schools
— IF/OF Maddy Holder (2018, Infield / Outfield) being recruited by SEC schools
— C/OF Celeste Soliz (2019, RHP/ Outfield) being recruited by Lamar

According to Pete Soliz, the Club President, all three “will be verballed by next summer.”
