Gia Rodoni is one of the top pitchers in the senior class and is ranked No. 26 overall in the 2015 Hot 100.

Not only a great talent on the field, she’s a smart, spiritual person off of it and one of my favorite players I’ve ever covered.

Gia wrote this morning recapping the start of her senior year, which included her official campus visit and the beginning of club fall ball. Enjoy reading what this top prospect is doing these days!

Well, my senior year is off and running!

Only two weeks into my senior year, I was blessed and overwhelmingly excited to take my official visit to Baylor during the weekend of the SMU football game (August 31).

Talk about an amazing atmosphere at McLane Stadium! It was the first game in the new stadium and was sold out and then some. I even got to spend some time and this experience with my mom and my brother Tazz who is a freshman at Baylor.

It was such an amazing weekend. I got to watch the Baylor softball team do its annual Eco Challenge. The team was broken down into smaller teams of 3-4 players who dressed up like Sponge Bob, the Wizard of Oz, and other characters.

They ran, canoed, biked, climbed a rock wall, swam, and ran back to the field to run the bases. I have to say, I was a little worried that I was going to have to participate on that day!

I had such a great time getting to know the other 2015 recruits, who are all from Texas – pitcher Abby Langkamp, outfielder Kyla Walker and catcher/third baseman Rhonda Jarvis –and spending time with my future teammates.

My host was my girl, former Grapettes teammate Ari Hawkins who’s a sophomore infielder for the Bears.

It honestly seems like a dream. I can’t believe that in a matter of weeks, I’ll be signing my National Letter of Intent.

Since I transferred back to my home town last December, I’ve been attending a high school that’s only been in existence for four years. I will officially be the first D-1 athlete to sign from there. Scary and exciting all at the same time!

God is good! My visit further reassured me that Baylor is where He wants me to be and I am blessed.

On top of my visit, my club team, the Grapettes, dove head first into fall season. We played some warm-up tourneys locally to get us working as a team. We have several new players that have added some depth and talent to an already solid core.

I’m pretty excited to see this team bond and grow over the next couple of Surf City Tourneys which are this weekend and next.

The SoCal A’s Invitational a few weekends ago was just the beginning of a competitive fall season. Some of the new players are already grabbing the attention of college coaches.

Have a wonderful week and God Bless!

Gia Rodoni
