Being No. 1 in the Hot 100 (9/26)
Being No. 1 in the Hot 100 (9/26)

How cool would it be to be considered No. 1 at anything? Maybe it’s the top calculus student, the top chef or the best singer in the nation. As I’ve noted before, we as Americans love our lists and we certainly love to see who’s No. 1.

Later today, the 2016 Hot 100 list wraps up and you’ll find out who is considered the top prospect in the junior class. And, as a reminder, the rankings in the Hot 100 come from input provided by club and college scouts and coaches all over the country.
This is the third class ranking FullCountSoftball has done and you can check out all the previous rankings in the 2014 and 2015 classes by clicking here.
Looking back on the two previous No. 1’s, they have done nothing to make anyone believe they don’t deserve the top spot (not to say there aren’t other players in their classes that haven’t demonstrated they could be considered No. 1 either!).
2014 Hot 100 No. 1: Jenna Lilley
An infielder from Canton, Ohio and a leader on the Beverly Bandits, Jenna won her fourth straight Ohio high school state championship this year and was a 1st Team Full Count Softball All-American. She finished her prep career with a .576 batting average and also shined again with the Bandits leading them to another top 10 finish at PGF Nationals. Jenna is now starting her fall season with the Oregon Ducks.
2015 Hot 100 No. 1: Amanda Lorenz
Amanda also was named as a 1st Team FCS All-American as she hit .642 for her Moorpark (Calif.) High team. The Florida commit also had a standout summer culminating with a PGF 18U Premier National Championship with the OC Batbusters – Haning/Stith team.
Both Jenna and Amanda are similar in many ways—along with being amazing hitters, both are tremendous people off the field with great work ethics and passion for the game. And both are stellar teammates and leaders in the dugout as well.
I asked Amanda last night what it was like being named as the No. 1 player in the Class of 2015 as we’re just hours away from revealing who the next top prospect in a class is.
Here’s what she had to say:

“Being named as the top player in my class is such an honor. It has definitely shown me that my hard work is paying off and if I would like to stay at the top I will have to work even harder.”
“I think there has been a little more pressure to perform.. However, I put a lot of pressure on myself so I am used to it. I think receiving this honor is a huge blessing and I’m super thankful for the opportunities that have been placed in front of me so that I could achieve this one day. “
“When player rankings coming out, it causes girls to work harder. My advice to girls who are either working to be on the list, working to stay on the list, or working to stay at the top to never get complacent and keep working. The second you think it’s okay to take a break, another girl is working hard to take your spot.”
“Congrats to all who made the list and good luck this season!”
And for good measure, here’s the video shot when Amanda learned that she would be the top player named in her class:
Finally, one thing that the softball world will learn today about the top player when the 2016 list is announced: she has had great success on the field—as her predecessors have had—but what makes her equally special is her class, unselfishness and dedication to her craft.
And when you learn more about her, you’ll see why she is considered by club and college coaches all over the nation as the best in the country at what she does.
