Mustangs loaded with talented ‘17’s (9/20)

The Tampa Mustangs organization is the oldest in Florida and hit its 33rd birthday this year.

One of the top teams is the 16U squad coached by Thomas J. Goelz, who goes by “T.J.” His team finished 2nd at this summer’s ASA/USA 1U “A” tournament.
Talent-wise, the talent looks great for this year as well–we’ve already had a Mustangs player listed in the 2016 Hot 100 list and the Class of 2017 looks very strong as well.
Getting a head start on the sophomore class, we go to TJ who says about his group of ‘17’s: “We have six uncommitted 2017 players and two committed 2017 players. Almost all of them have been on multiple unofficial visits and some have offers they are considering.”
Here’s a look at these eight players who we’ll likely be hearing about quite a bit over the next few years!
***
— SS/UT Kinsey Goelz (2017, South Florida)
Verbally committed to USF last December, had a solid summer season. She hit .346 at ASA Nationals and .333 at the Boulder Independence Day Tournament, while playing her usual strong defense.

— 3B/OF Kaylee Misiti (2017, Central Florida)
Verballed to UCF in the early summer and had a strong summer as well. She hit six HRs this summer with three at the Boulder Independence Day Tournament where she hit .375 with 15 RBIs. She scored eight runs, six RBI with a .483 OBP at ASA Nationals.
— MIF/C/OF Myah Moy (2017, uncommitted)
“Myah is a versatile athlete. She can play multiple positions at a high level, and hit for avg. and hit for power from the right side. She can also slap bunt, soft slap and power slap from the left side with excellent speed. She is a gamer and clutch performer in our big game schedule. Myah hit .330 for the summer with 22 RBIs and one HR.”
— LHP/OF Logan Newton (2017, uncommitted)
“Logan is a strong athletic left-handed pitcher who is blessed with outstanding movement and good velocity. She beat some outstanding teams this summer and is an excellent defensive pitcher as well. When she wasn’t pitching she played a steady OF for us with excellent speed and instincts. She batted .571 at the Boulder IDT and .384 overall for the summer. “

— OF Denali Schappacher (2017, uncommitted)
“’Schopp’ is a scrappy, gritty softball player who has a knack for coming through when you really need her to – offensively and defensively. She can bunt for a hit, soft slap, and power slap as good as any and has excellent speed to 1B. Schopp had a .444 OBP for us this summer and had clutch hits for us at nationals where she batted .800. She tracks the ball at a very high level and has a strong accurate throwing arm.”
— OF/2B Gracie Seidl (2017, uncommitted)
“Gracie returns to our team this fall. Last fall she hit .400 for us and we are excited to have her bat, her athleticism and fire for the game back. She can play multiple positions, has above average speed and arm strength and is an excellent contact hitter.”
— 1B/3B Kasi Shaffer (2017, uncommitted)
“Kasi is a power hitting corner infielder. She is fearless at the plate and hits with power to all fields. She hit five home runs this summer including two at ASA Nationals, one of them being a two-run blast off the foul pole in the National Championship Game.”
— RHP Sylvia Welsh (2017, uncommitted)
“Sylvia is an outstanding right-handed spin pitcher. Sylvia is a winner. She is 10-1 the last two years at ASA Nationals with a sub 1.00 era. She was 18-4 this summer and 32-6 the prior summer with 253 strikeouts in 255 innings pitched. Sylvia wants the ball in her hand in the big games and does a great job preventing hitters solid contact.”
