Rankings. Everyone loves them… unless your team or player isn’t where you think they be!

The US Club Rankings, produced by Triple Crown Sports, compiles rankings in fastpitch softball, volleyball and basketball and bases the ratings on a point system that awards points for higher finishes at top events.

The site just released the 2014 final fastpitch club rankings for the 18U and 16U levels which are sure to create discussion and stoke controversy.

Regarding the 18U list, one prominent and successful club coach—who’s even in the top 25—said:

“I was very surprised to see your final national rankings.  I don’t know who voted and put these teams in the order you released, but I have to strongly disagree with the assessment. The OC Batbusters should be No. 1 as they beat the Coronal Angels for the PGF championship and we beat (two teams ranked higher than us) yet are ranked lower than them….crazy.  I am having a hard time understanding the vote, but it is your process.  We will try to do better next year.”

That’s the one thing I’ve learned about doing rankings—few are going to be happy with the lists, but everyone sure likes to read them!
