A Chill-y pair of 2016’s heat up (9/9)

If you look at our Master Verbal List, you’ll see that the Illinois Chill program run by Gerry Quinn has two dozen recruits committed to ACC, Big Ten, SEC and even Ivy League schools.
We also had a pair of Chill 2014’s who made the Hot 100 list for that year in SS Marissa Panko and Sabrina Rabin, both of who are now at Northwestern.
Coach Quinn has another pair of outstanding players in the junior class who are under strong consideration to make the 2016 Hot 100 list which kicks off next Monday.
Here, with the coach’s comments, are the two to watch who are headed to the SEC and Big Ten, respectively…

— MIF Alex Martens (2016, Kentucky)
“Alex led our team last summer in batting average at .440. She also led us in doubles with 16 and drove in 44 runs in 54 games. Alex held down the No. 3 spot on a team that went 38-16 for the summer against a top schedule.
In 179 plate appearances she struck out only eight times. As good as her hitting was, her defense may have been better. As a 6-foot tall second basemen she exhibited tremendous range and turned in a jaw dropping play virtually every game, taking sure hits away from opponents on a regular basis.”

— C Kayla Konwent (2016, Wisconsin)
“Kayla led our team last summer in home runs (7) and RBI (52), driving in just about one run a game. During her sophomore year in high school she was named Player of the Year in Division 1, the largest school class in Wisconsin.
Kayla led her team to the State Championship game for the second consecutive year by hitting 12 home runs in 92 at-bats and driving in 46 runs in 30 games. Further indication of the respect she has as a hitter was the 11 intentional walks she received.”
