I have a friend who started a software company and whenever he has a job opening he puts a posting on Monster.com. Typically, he’ll get over 400 applications for the one position. Imagine how hard it is for an applicant to cut throw the noise to get noticed!

Trying to get the attention of a college coach can be as equally challenging. They are limited in time and availability to check out every possible prospect so, like in the job world, it can take some creativity and ingenuity to catch a recruiter’s eye.

One clever approach that worked was utilized by Lauryn Henderson, a catcher/infielder who plays for the Strikeforce-Sheehan 16U club team and is a sophomore at Camp Verde High in Gilbert, Ariz.

Lauryn is already the creative type—she wants to study fine arts in college and is a skilled artist already prolific at drawing the human form—and put that talent to use when she sent out recruiting invitations prior to her participating in the Colorado Sparkler tournament this summer.
