What a year it’s been for Brooke Vestal, the 2018 pitcher with the Texas Bombers who is committed to Oklahoma!
At last year’s PGF Nationals, she was a rising star who, though only 13, had SEC, Big 12, Big Ten and Pac-12 coaches watching her pitch. A year later, she’s become one of the top pitchers in the country and at last week’s tournament finished second of all the pitchers with her 70 strikeouts in 43 1/3 inning (eight games).
Earlier in the summer she helped her Texas Bombers 16U team to a third place finish in the Colorado Sparkler Super 64 as she went 6-0 with 60 strikeouts in 34 2/3innings.
The summer is over for Brooke now and she’ll get into some other activities which she details below…

Another tournament season has come to a close.
Softball took me all over the country this year as I got to pitch to the best players in the country in Denver (Colorado Sparkler tournament), Atlanta (TC/USA Nationals) and Huntington Beach, Calif. last week (PGF 14U Nationals).
I didn’t win all the battles, but I learned from playing against elite competition. These girls can hit!
I love the tournament season because it is the time of the year where the best players play on the biggest stage with a lot on the line. The more I play the game, the more I realize how good the players are.

Playing for Coach Scott Smith and the Texas Bombers gives me the chance to play in the big tournaments where the softball is strong. We came home without the big trophy this year, but I won’t forget the memories I made along the way with my Bombers Futures HTX team.
Our team played hard every inning, and we left it on the field. We had enough success to make us work hard to take the next step in 2015.
It was fun to meet and play against some of my future Sooner teammates, too. I look forward to playing together rather than having to try to get them out!
In the meantime, I will put up the cleats for now and get out the volleyball gear. For me the fall will be on the volleyball court until I can get my hunting clothes on and go about making myself invisible. My time hunting brings me away from the grind. I enjoy listening to the silence that only comes when I am alone in the brush.
I’ll be back next spring to share the highs and lows of my softball season. I hope next year will match this one, but either way I will no doubt learn from the journey.
Viva Texas Bombers, and the best team did win this year: congrats to the Corona Angels-Tyson team who beat us twice on their way to the PGF 14U championship.
Bombers will be back!
